Replacement headset bearings?

I brought a bearing from my headset (Ritchey Logic comp 1 1/8") into a local bearing shop looking for a replacement. No luck, he had nothing like it.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how/where to find replacement bearings?

Bicycle shops carry bearings, loose and caged.

what is wrong with the bearing/s? are these bearings in retainers or the newer cartridge type bearings? if retainers just get new loose balls and install. they should be able to order either the retainers or the cartridge type for you.

Thanks for the ideas. I love my LBS, I really do. I depend on their mechanics and tip them well. However, they only stock what they think they can sell, and I was hoping to be able to choose between several grades of bearing to find the price/grade that seems best for me.

BikeToolsEtc has bearings, they have everything. Still no grade info though.

I also haven't yet found the exact size I need. I can't find the details on the Ritchey web site, and while I have the bearings I'm worried that I'm not accurate enough to tell the slope I need. 36 and 40 degrees look a lot alike over 1/4"

so they are cartridge bearings? maybe this will help you decide what you need

Yep, cartridge bearings. Certainly not hybrid ceramic bearings w/ Ti coating though.

So can I assume that Ritchey uses 45/45 degree bearings in all of their headsets?

It's a cartridge bearing headset that you can buy for $16 on Amazon. I'd just buy a new one just for the bearings.
