has anyone ordered from www.loosescrews.com?

was wondering if they are legit, i find it strange that they don't have a phone number and the ball bearings seem awfully low priced

You'll find a number of people here have in fact ordered from them.

Bearings ARE pretty cheap. So, why not buy the best ones. Bearings are graded by hardness and roundness. The better ones are "grade 25". You will see that they are slightly more expensive than the grade 200. Barnetts says that any grade number higher than 200 are "mediocre". Maybe someone knows the exact spec differences.

Barnetts also says that if you your ball bearings are in a retainer, you are better off replacing them with loose balls, as retainers will always keep a fixed distance between the balls and, as a result, are a major factor leading to brinelling (pitting of the ball race surfaces). Yes, it's more difficult to get the little buggers to stay in place - seat them in a bead of grease - but, there are clear advantages to loose balls.
Er, on your bike, of course ;-)

Here's another source for bearings and tools:

I have ordered lots of tools and parts from these guys and they are very good.

I order lots of stuff from Loose Screws. It's a great place to find parts for old bikes.

I've done a couple hundred dollars of buisness with em this year and as always, great service. Good place for finding the odds and ends of cycling.

I have bought from them several times. Very nice people. I think it is a small operation.

Good prices on basic essential items.

I haven't bought from them in awhile, but made a few purchases in the past few years with excellent service. They're great for hard to find doo-dads. It always amazes me how much stuff they have.

Great site - thanks for posting this and spreading the word
I am presently looking for some old brake hood covers for a restoration project and think I just found them!

Cheers,

Ed
