I screwed up. . . sort of.
So I though. . hey, here's this much better headset lying around doing nothing so I'll take out this unknown, maybe crappy headset from by beater and while I'm at it replace the fork, too. . . except one small thing:
I didn't see if the wheel+tire would fit in the fork.
and the 700x28c Bontrager R1 does not fit (wheelset on the bike has 19mm rims)
I was thinking:
On a side note, I could have sworn I built this wheel with a FH-1055, but nooooo. FH-6400. Oh well.

I was thinking:
- Swap in spare wheel from "bling" bike (200x23c). I have it on now. Looks odd, but rideable, I guess.
- Bite the bullet and suffer with the original fork (swap the crown race, I suppose, but I don't have tools to do that (yet?)
- Find a lower profile 28 (how?) or could a smaller tire run safely on a 19mm rim? Say 25 / 26. .

I'd go for door #3. 25 or 26 will work fine on a 19mm rim

Heh. I just DID buy a fork. For a different bike. I'm tapped out-- for large purchases, anyway.
I'll go to the shop tomorrow, hat in hand, and see what they got.
Mistakes are the portals to opportunity, someone said to me recently.

Meh. Both employees said nyet on the narrower tire on the wheel-- afraid it won't seat properly and blow off. I'm not sure, though, how much smaller in diameter a 25 will be than a 28. . . just about 6mm, maybe.

I'd run this 26 on pretty much any rim that I'd run pretty much any 28 on.
