Calibrating Truing Stand
I have just aquired an old park truing stand and the arms have a bit of wiggle play and i was told that the arms needed to be calibrated because it throws the dish on wheels off alignment. all i know is that i need a centering gauge to do it. i have no clu on where to start any info is appreciated.

Use your front wheel. Check that the wheel is OK by noting the position of the rim, them flipping the wheel. if the rim doesn't move when mirrored the wheel is centered and can be used to calibrate the stand.
Note that wheel axles don't always fixture in the identical position, so re-fixture the wheel a few times on each side fto get a "true" position.

Dish sticks are pretty cheap , a simple reference to compare one side with the other..
then you don't need to bother ..
with the screwing around with the setscrews on the shaft that
connects the 2 uprights.
just flipping the wheel over and double checking
on the near, .. seems to be the left, .. side.
works on 90+% of wheel truing jobs..

As for wiggle, check that the adjusting shaft's collars aren't allowing excess lateral play, and you can snug up the bolts that the uprights pivot on if they're floppy. Replacement parts are also available.
