Cassette with "AJ AM" marking?
Hey folks, I picked up an unused replacement 7-speed cassette a while back, and while the lockring had the Shimano logo on it, all the cogs are marked "AJ AM" instead. Is AJ AM a subcontractor for Shimano, or did I get a knockoff cassette that should not have been sold as a "Shimano"? I'm more curious than worried about it, but "AJ AM" doesn't play well with most search engines.
Thanks!

IF it's either an 11-28 or 11-30, it's the Shimano code for those cassettes.
The 6 smallest cogs are the same, with the AJ being 28 teeth.

Just did a little more digging on this particular cassette. Apparently, it's the "Interactive Glide" that was Shimano's attempt to improve on HG. The gearing (11-13-15-18-21-24-28) matches with the "AC" set in Sheldon Brown's gear calculator, so I'm curious if they used the "AJ AM" code to keep it from being confused with a HG cassette.
Additionally, I may need to do some grinding or add spacers to use this cassette on my bike -- anything else I may need to watch out for? Since this cassette would raise my top-end gearing (currently using a 12-28T), I wonder if I'll like the change.
Thanks,
- Scott

Are you having trouble with the 11 tooth cog?

Maybe you could just use your 12T cog instead of the 11???

Well, I was idly curious about what I might have to do when this old 12-28T cassette finally wears out, but I went ahead and test-installed it -- fits on my RX100 hub just fine.
Thanks!

IF you decide you prefer the 12T instead of the 11, swap it.
Most the time, my cassettes (9 speed) are pieces of 2 or 3 cassettes to get the combo's I like.
Ironically, on one of them, I ended up with a 12-21 , which is a standard combination.
If I had your 2 cassette, I'd probably end up-
12-13-14-15-16-18-21. (I've got small rings)
