Canti Crossover Cable

I want to replace the brake cables on my Raleigh Touring 14. For the crossover cable, is it okay to use a standard brake cable or is it necessary to use a canti specific cable?

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

+1, assuming that you have the traditional arrangement with a main cable and separate crossover cable, and that one end is a typical pinch nut.

I have that arrangement and prefer to use a yoke specific cable only because the head has the little grabber tab making it easier to connect and disconnect when removing the wheels.

That's kinda what I thought and I was trying to be a cheapskate, but I have an order going into Niagra this week and I figured out it's called a link cable, so I think I'll get a 10 pak.................Thank you.
