Shimano 105 flight deck shifter

i bought my first new bike in over 15 years yesterday, it was a 2010 rocky mountain solo cxr. i rode it around the block a few times and for a few minutes on the trainer and every thing was working fine.

when i got home this morning my left side shifter was really hard to down shift and now takes 3 clicks instead of 2. my wife said she caught my 8 year old playing with the shifter last night. what could he have done to cause this? are they really that delicate? do you think the shop i bought the bike from will take care of it for me. i can't afford to spend any more money.

i am going to ride down to the shop on Saturday but any info you guys might have would be great

Take it back to the LBS. If your child damaged it, you are probably responsible for the repair but have the dealer look at it first.

Be sure to not mention that your kid was playing with it though. Even if it wasn't the kid's fault, if you say that they will assume it was and make you pay even if it was just a bad part.

Those are generally pretty tough shifters, so it may have just gotten out of alignment if your kid was shifting it but the derailleur couldn't move because the chain wasn't moving; but it's likely not broken for good.

So was this a used bike or just one they'd had in their inventory and never sold? Just curious about the condition before you bought it.

Oh, in that case try loosening the H limit screw just a touch, or release just a little cable tension if you can adjust it that direction.
Your "release" is rubbing up too close/hard against the limit/stop.

If this is a new bike it could be cables are stretching a bit, and you may just need a little tightening.
