Should there be a gap between my bottom bracket and crank arm?
There is a gap between my bottom bracket and crank arm and I am just wondering if it's normal. It seems like a great place for dust to get into and gum everything up. There's a good amount of grease in there. So is it normal? Or is there a missing cap I should have? Thanks!

That gap is completely normal. The crank arm should never "bottom" in the square taper or rub the bottom bracket cup. The bottom bracket has it's own seals and doesn't rely on the crank arm for protection.

Thanks for the amazingly quick reply! My last bike had a cap with a hole in the center covering it so I wasn't sure. Thanks again!
