SRAM Attack/Shimano XT

I am finally, after eleven years, going to upgrade my stock derailleurs on my MTB. What I'd like to know is: Can I use my SRAM Attack (9-speed) thumb shifters with the Shimano XT M772 SGS rear derailleur? I hope I do not have to buy XT quickfire shifters, but will if I have to.
I am presently using the Attack shifters with a Shimano LX M570. Thanks.

The m772 is still a 9speed (the 10 speed dyna-sys RDs are a no-go) but it's a Shadow RD; Shimano tech docs say they will only work with matched shifters, but some online sources suggest otherwise. I haven't messed with them myself yet, so i cannot say for sure.

If you've not yet bought a new RD, why not just go with a m771 (normal RD) or m770 (rapidrise)? These will both work well with your Attack shifters....

Thanks, sur. I looked at the M771 and it seems fine. (Thanks for the caution on the Dyna-sys.) I suspect that the "Shadow" name indicates the narrower configuration of the M772. I do not really need this stream-lined design, for I only ride on the road (and a dirt road every blue Moon). I'll go with the 771. I appreciate the help.
