152mm cranks?
Is there such a thing as double 152mm cranks? Or is it possible to mount square taper triples on a shorter spindle and remove the 3rd ring? I don't actually have anything against triples, it's just that my bikes are set up for doubles and I don't want to spend too much money if I decide I don't like the short cranks.
Thanks

It might be possible to go with a shorter spindle and remove the granny ring. I say "might" because I can't guarantee there won't be clearance issues. But it'll most likely work. What will definitely work is leaving it as is and adjusting the FD to treat the middle as your inner and setting the high limit screw to stop it on the outboard side. You could also take off the outer ring and buy a longer spindle.

I'm just a bit surprised at the desire for the odd number, 152mm instead of something like a 150mm or 155mm which I bet you might be able to find (children's bike crank?).

Why do you want such short cranks? And 152mm is an odd size to boot. I know there are people that will customize existing longer cranks. They cut off the end with the existing pedal mounting boss and then drill and tap a new hole closer to the crank's centerline but it isn't cheap since it needs to be precision machined.

J&B brand Origin8 sells alloy Bmx cranks down to some pretty short lengths..

I have a pair of 152mm triples off of X-Mart 24" BSO's laying in the garage.
Maybe they had a lower cost 10 speed version to "compliment" the high end 15 speed one?

Nono, there is something about 152mm, although I don't know where it's from, but one can often find Sugino XD cranks in the 152mm length version, and from there it jumps to 165, 170, 175.... And yes, as someone mentioned, 152mm cranks come on some cheap bangers, too... Can't say where it's from, except that 152mm is almost exactly 6 inches... (152.4mm). Might be where that comes from.
And, yeah, OP: If you want a 152mm triple, I'll suggest the aforementioned Sugino XD.... a good crank at a good price, in the somewhat esoteric 152mm length.
**EDIT: I see you want a double. Why not get the 50/36/24 XD, run a shorter spindle, and remove the inner ring? No one needs to know the truth about the tripleness....

I'd go with the Sugino and leave off the granny ring. It's a nice unit, and I'm surprised it's available in such a short length! 165s won't cut it? How short are you?
You likely need a triple front derailer. Also, your chainline could've been off (you may have needed a longer BB.)

Using a triple as a double should work in most instances. Many doubles use the same castings as triples, they are just don't the the inner mounting pads milled, drilled, and tapped.

This is currently the best deal going for the Sugino.
If you're building petite or European junior sized bikes, this is about the only good looking crank. The Origin8 are okay looking, but barely.

da Vinci cranks start with 150 mm, but they aren't cheap.

Not cheap here either and unfortunately 150mm but no 152mm unless you go with the reeaaally expensive custom option. https://www.bigandtallbike.com/Custom-Cranks_c_59.html This place in the UK does shortening for not too bad a price even with shipping. https://www.highpath.net/ (click the link under "Repairs + Mods" on left side of page).
