Square taper bottom bracket replacement

I have ordered a new crankset (shimano FC-M590) for my Specialized Cross Trail. I have removed the cartridge bearing, and now am wondering if the BB50 that comes with the crankset will work. I have a GPX BB that screws in there nicely, and seems that it will work. Any thoughts would be helpful to relieve my fears.

Thanks in advance.

Should be fine. The threads inside the bottom bracket for square taper cartridge are the same as the ones for Shimano's Hollowtech II bottom brackets. Only thing that might need to be done is facing the frame and chasing the threads - I say might because there are both arguments for an against. I haven't used external BB so I have no idea or opinion on this.
