Initial/Preventative Maintenance on Newly Acquired Used Bike?

Today I bought my first real bike, a used Trek 7.1FX from a pawn shop. While it looks to be in like new condition I have no clue of its history. Is there anything I should do to it before pressing it into service?

Check the BB for fresh grease.

Don't forget to check the grease on the axle bearings.

Grease and adjust axle bearings, verify bolts and fasteners are tight, cables are adjusted not rusted, tires are not dry rotted, ride like the wind...
