Tire replacement
I own “Montague Navigator”, a foldable regular size hybrid bike. It is equipped with tires of Kenda Kwick Roller Sport 700c x 26mm semi-slick. As I am planning a long distance riding, I want to replace these tires with more durable ones. Someone suggested me that I should try cyclecross tires such as Schwalbe CX Comp PP Wire Bead Tire (700X30). My questions are 1) is this best substitute per price (cannot spend a lot on tires); 2) would 700X30 tire substitute 700c x 26 considering that bike is foldable (complex feature). I was told that bike will take tires with size up to 700x30C. What does the C at the end of 30 mean? Are 700x30C and 700x30 the same size tires?? Harry

What kind of surfaces are you going to be riding on? If mostly pavement, something with knobby tread like those cyclocross tires probably wouldn't be your best choice. They won't roll as efficiently. You'll notice that in both speed and effort. You'll want something slick or with smooth tread.
There are lots of good tires out there, each with its own pros and cons, so it's hard to give you a specific recommendation for THE tire that's right for you. Throwing some ideas out there, though... If you need cheap tires, Panaracer Paselas are hard to beat for under $20 each. They're great tires for the price, but they don't have any extra flat protection, which might come in particularly handy for distance riding. Good tires with flat protection would be something like the Panaracer Pasela PT, Panaracer T-Serv, Continental Gatorskin, or Schwalbe Marathon.
As for sizing, 700c tires are meant for rims with 622 mm diameter. 700c tires of different widths are generally interchangeable so long as you're not going to a tire that's way too wide for your rim. If your rims are currently sporting 26 mm wide tires, it's almost certain they'll take a 30 mm tire. The limiting factor for width is likely your frame or fork. Take a look at your current setup. Do you have 2+ mm to spare on each side of your 26 mm tires, plus a little extra room just in case? (The "just in case" room comes in handy for things like variance from listed tire size, an out-of-true rim, broken spoke, or a misaligned wheel.) If 30 seems like it'll be cutting it close, 28 is a common size.

Since I will be riding mostly on pavment, I will look into Panaracer Pasela PT, Panaracer T-Serv, Continental Gatorskin, or Schwalbe Marathon as your suggested. since flat protection is my main concern. With regard to the tire size, I am not so sure where to look on the side of tire to see if there is space or not. I wll just look for 28 mm tire to be safe. Thanx a lot for your information.
Harry.
