Mix and match will it work?

I'm planning to match Campagnolo Centaur 10 speed Ergopowers with a Shimano RD 7700 rear derailleur (I know it will do 10 speed too), and a 10 speed Shimano cassette.

Will it work? Has anyone any experience with this combination? Will a 9 speed cassette work better?

Thanks in advance.

Without some means to compensate for the different spacing and cable pull ratio between Shimano and Campagnolo 10-speed systems, it's not gonna work too well. But the Jtek Shiftmate exists for just such a purpose, and they make different models for different drivetrain component combinations. For Campagnolo 10-speed shifters, Shimano 10-speed cassette, and a Shimano derailleur as you described above, you'd need a Shiftmate model 3.

Not going to work very well with 10 speed without an adapter.
It will work with a 9speed Shimano RD and cassette with the alternative cable routing known as "hub bub."
Shimano 8speed RD and cassette is practically a direct swap with Campy 10 shifters.

Google "Shimergo" for more info and help finding parts that will match up.

Thanks a lot guys. I think its a bad plan, with the 10 speed shifters and DA 7700 rear mech.

BTW, I'm very happy with a different mixed setup: Record carbon 9 speed shifters, Record carbon rear mech,10 speed (KMC) chain and 9 speed Shimano cassette.

I run 11speed Campy shifters driving Shimano 9speed derailleurs on my touring bike. Takes a little more fine tuning, but I'm happy with it. It's basically dead on except for the last cog on either end.
