I debated the Tanaka, but ended up purchasing the KCNC version. It works well.

I have the Hirame on two pumps, and another one for my son. No complain here. A real engineering marvel.

+1 I have a Hirame too and it's been flawless for several years. It was, as noted, more expensive; about $80 from the same Ben's Cycles linked to by the OP. Cheaper if you get them from a Japanese source.

This unit does not seem to fit my Presta valve stems? Did I miss something?

In what way does it not fit? With my Hirame, I needed to tighten the knurled ring to make it snug to the valve; after that it worked flawlessly. Not sure if the Tanaka is a similar design.

the inside diameter is much larger than my presta valve. No way to tighten to the stem.

The insides will reverse for either. Works great now, and excellent customer service from Ben's!
