Changing cable for old 3 speed interal gear hub

I have an old folding Dahon that has a Sachs Torpeado internal gear hub shifter. I bought the bike used and it had all three gears did operate, but it has slowly lost the low and high gears. The cable is kinked as I am using this bike and folding it about three times a day. Is there a universal cable for all internal gear hubs? Do I have to get a special Sachs Torpedo cable? I do hope my bike is not doomed to single gear land! Thanks!!

Most IGH cables are system specific, because they use various heads at the lever end, and the adjusted barrel at the hub end is attached. I always made my own by buying one with the right head for the lever, and cutting to length and finishing by crimping a short piece of brass tubing on the adjusting barrel end.

got the pull chain + threaded thing? got the part that threads onto it ? Sachs had a squeeze to release one the S-A screws on [It may work too)

can you see what head is on the lever end? the cable itself is common, the fittings on the ends are what you have to match..

In the "old days" when I had 3-speeds, I found a dramatic change in operation with some fresh lubricant. I dont know if that hub has an opening for oiling but it may be an answer if the fresh cable doesnt fix it or the cable is actually OK.

Thanks for all the answers. Even though the hub itself may need to be lubricated, I do not feel confident to do it myself. I will look for a opening for oiling to see if it helps. I will also try to re-lubricate the cable and see if that helps improve shifting. If not I guess I have to go to a bike co-op and see if someone can help me or perhaps get an old Sachs Torpedo cable. Thanks again for the help.
