Good source for allen head screws and other hardware?
Where is a good source for buying metric allen head screws that are used on bicycles? Some I have noticed have odd looking heads on them, like flared or pan head or dome shape. Any good sources either brick and mortar stores or online?

My best source is the custom bicycle builder we have in town. I like to use a lot of stainless allen head bolts and he has always had what I've needed. Most hardware stores nowdays carry a limited supply and usually grade 2 junk, at least in my area.

We have one hardware store in the area with a great selection of metric fasteners, the rest just have the basics. Cherish a store like that, if you can find one...
Fastenall is the another source, but last time I checked in locally, they had stopped sales of quantities less than a bag/50pcs.

I've had good luck with Boltdepot.com.
They have some printable PDF charts and tables (look for Resources on their main page) that enabled me to determine the threading I needed (from the original bolt). You can overlay the orig. bolt w/another chart, to get the size you need, etc.

McMaster-Carr is another good source, and the web site is fun.

My local hardware store carries almost everything I need except specialty items like chain ring bolts or painted bolts. Find a hardware store that has those racks of bins full of individual bolts and stuff.

i like to use the local Boating store like West Marine. They have an excellent selection of stainless metric fasteners. I've also used Grainger and Fastenal on occasion, as well. I think they no longer stock smaller quantities.

Funny but the neighborhood hardware stores have better selections than Home Depot and Lowe's. I agree you should try Ace or Tru-Value. Look for stainless steel. You can find titanium on ebay.

If you go past the automotive kits in their catalog you'll see all kinds of individual metric and US thread bolts, screws, nuts, washers etc. They specialize in hard to find stainless steel hardware including high strength versions, which are hard to find in stainless steel. Having a downloadable, printable catalog is also helpful in the shop. I've been buying from them for almost 20 years now.
