Now, now. Be nice. If he actually did that, he'd probably have a few friends. Let's keep it clean on the forum so this thread doesn't get deleted too.

Yeah. That frame probably weighs 5-6lbs. The forks maybe like 3,and wheels combined like 5. No way it weighs 19lbs. Only 20lb bikes i've seen are old school.

I bet the body dysmorphic chicks are banging down your door to get at that scale you're using there. That's about what my carbon / OX platinum road bike weighs.

Maybe his bike has carbon fibre headset spacers? That lightens it up.

My LeMond came with a carbon steerer tube cap. So even if he's got carbon headset spacers (which I also have, of course), I'm still lighter.

I'll see your carbon top cap and raise you an SRP kit for the rear derailleur - a Ti pivot bolt, aluminum pulley bolts, and ti pinch bolt.

That ti pinch bolt does save a gram though.

i was just saying that carbon fiber in my opinion shouldnt be used for bmx bikes. its not strong enough for some of the things people do on it.

WRONG...carbon fiber is STRONGER than steel in terms of load capacity. If it's well made it absolutely WILL NOT BREAK unless the epoxy matrix or textile structure is damaged. The reason you don't run carbon on a BMX bike is because people crash and when you crash, things get scratched, scraped, abraded...all the sorts of stresses carbon is not designed to handle.

Which brings us back to titanium... with CF headset spacers, of course.

It won't necessarily break when you crash, either. It's not load forces that break carbon, that's a really common misconception. It's not at all 'brittle' or 'weak'. But it's suceptible to sharp, direct impacts like hitting it with a hammer or dropping it on concrete, which will crack it and cause it to *become* brittle and weak.
