callumrides 05-15-07 02:21 AM

They are all pretty cool. I like the dark alleyway one the most. It's like purpleish.

eightdip 05-15-07 06:31 AM

Shame its slightly blurred, or was that the look you were going for? I like the barspin one

new_dharma 05-15-07 10:42 AM

people shots with nothin' going on are always better in B&W...

FitRider 921 05-15-07 12:37 PM

Nice shots.

MadMan2k 05-15-07 01:33 PM

Callumrides, you could make your photos look better if you think harder about composition, like what you should and shouldn't include in the frame. If you include foreground objects, it's usually good to have them in focus, but there are exceptions. Everyone goes through a 'tilt' phase, and it damn near never helps your photos, so if you can't level the camera at least crop it to level...

Of course the barspin shot is a good standard to aspire too, but it looks like you don't have lighting equipment or a wide angle to shoot something just like it yet...

Oh ****! The company that makes my frame are really KGB members conspiring against BMX and the government!

eightdip 05-17-07 07:40 AM

Yep, didn't you know, jeez

kjohnnytarr 05-18-07 07:58 PM

East Hill 05-18-07 08:06 PM

I like the fourth photo in particular. What's under the bridge in the fifth picture?

East Hill

minichamp31 05-18-07 08:23 PM

The fourth picture is the coolest.

kjohnnytarr 05-18-07 08:26 PM

Yeah, the fourth is an underground area connected to some tunnels, just off a park here. Neat place, it definitely is.

Under the bridge in number five is a bicycle/ walking trail that continues out of town and eventually to St. Louis. This part is just running along next to a creek.

Brian 05-18-07 09:21 PM

Sharp, and well exposed. You just need to work on your subject matter a bit more, and composition.

The fifth image has bright spots at the edges. Your eyes are always drawn to the brightest part first, so that's a bad thing. You seem to cut stuff off at odd places - watch your edges more.

Finally, did you shoot everything standing upright? Bend your knees, kneel, lie down. Point your camera up, point it down. You want a point of view that we don't see every day. Can you go back and get low enough to shoot the parking meter framed by the window behind it? In the third image, the left 1/3 of the frame is mostly a distraction. I would have tried shooting through the middle of the sculpture, and catching the lights or tree, again, framed by the sculpture.

All in all, a good effort. My guess is you may have been hampered by a basic tripod that either doesn't go down low, or you were thinking too much, and didn't get into a creative groove.

FitRider 921 05-18-07 09:55 PM

They are super cool pictures. Keep it up.

Na, the last sentence of his post is pretty much truth.

Actually, it's all positive and encouraging.

MadMan2k 05-19-07 12:24 PM

Nice, I want a spotmatic. Already have some m42 lenses too, once I get some EOS glass again I'll probably get one to use them with instead of the Canon.

Although I don't know if I could stand a manual camera other than a Leica now... I ordered a Canon A1 for a friend and advancing that thing was like grinding rocks together, and there's tons of mirror return lag. Picked up the M3 and it was like cutting warm butter, and... "tick".

Brian 05-19-07 01:16 PM

A1's are known for having the advance and shutter mechanisms go bad. How does his shutter sound? I actually called a place that had me fire the camera by the mic on my phone, and he could tell that the shutter was going bad.

MadMan2k 05-19-07 03:21 PM

Hmm.. The shutter itself didn't sound screwed up to me, but the time between the mirror going down, shutter firing and mirror coming back up was a lot longer than the 1N.

Brian 05-19-07 04:21 PM

If I was shooting sports/action, I'd get the 1n RS.

eightdip 05-20-07 05:51 AM

Nice shots, This is my feeble attempt at an artsy photo:
