Magic behind it? Don't know about that, but I can speculate on the technicals... Slide film, probably Fuji, scanned on a not-so-hot scanner. Near mid-day light, either a bonfire or a fog machine, and it looks like one fill flash.

Word. That is probably the best picture I've ever seen.

I dont know about the smoke machine or bonfire. The smoke looks like it could be rendered in. I used to be a graphics designer.

Technically, it might be possible to put fake smoke in there that looks that good. There's no way someone just shooting for a BMX magazine would do that, though, and magazines like that frown on manipulated photos so they wouldn't do it themselves.

I see, I didn't know it was for a magazine, I was too busy looking at the sheer awesomeness of the picture that I completely missed the big bold letters BMX MAG.
