I think it was shot with a digital camera, and I think he exposed for the flash. Contrast is out of control - he's got nothing in the shadows or highlights. Post production might have helped, but overall, it's technically sucky.

MadMan2k 04-10-07 09:11 PM

The greens look like slide film, and the way the highlights kind of glow, looks more like a scanned slide than a digital file. A cheaper scanner wouldn't have much dynamic range either, even if the slide did.

(yes, kinetik, that's photo language, you'll survive)

I still think it's a shoddy chipper. The fact that I can't even locate a website for him makes me think it's more dumb luck than skill as well.

Haha. I think he's one of the more 'known' photographers for Ride UK...but i'm not sure either. And frankly i'm too lazy to go search.

Zoomed out? It was shot with a fixed 28.

I can't find a smiley for a jaw dropping on the floor but let's just pretend it's there.

Basically...what the heck are ya talking about?!

MadMan2k 04-12-07 11:16 AM

He's talking about the lens focal length. If it was an APS-C sized sensor that would make sense, but I'm not sure about the fixed part. Possibly, since the DOF is pretty shallow so it might be a fast prime wide open.

Kinetik, I'm telling you, if you just get a good book on photography you'll learn a lot and be inspired to really give it a shot, and it'll be a good decision to make...

FitRider 921 04-12-07 12:34 PM

I don't want to learn. I already know two languages.

You're still stuck on it being Velvia at ISO40.

I ain't gettin' no book!

I'ma learn by trial and error. As soon as i get my hub fixed i'm going to start re-saving up for a camera. I will probly just copy whatever mude got cause that way he can teach me(but most likely just make fun of me because i wont be able to figure it out), and because his price range was the same as mine is. Word.

Books are for chumps.

MadMan2k 04-13-07 03:45 PM

Keep shooting centered compositions with power lines all over and no interesting elements at noon in auto mode then, and acting like photography language is rocket science, and see how that works out...

hint: it won't

No mention of poor metering?

Hahaha.

As of right now my only interest in photography is taking pictures of my friends and i riding and maybe a few of our trails.

When and if i get that nicer camera then i'll start learn' myself about photography and stuff. But if i still have this hunk of junk snap-the-picture-before-the-person-is-even -off-the-jump-camera then i'm not going to bother.
