um im new here.. i have a mongoose (yes mongoose) street bike which is from the year 2000 (yes, quite old) i think? anyway, its a street setup. weighs about 35 pounds. since im getting a new bike soon (not mongoose) which is also set up for street i was thinkin maybe i could convert my old one into one for dirt? because where i live theres this huge abandoned field near my house and i think i could gather a bunch of dudes and make some jumps. so what kinda parts would i need to make it good for dirt jumps/dirt trails?
well heres what i know about it, its got one of the biggest heaviest frames i have ever seen, i think if i dropped it off the empire state building, it would slam through the ground to the core of the earth and it wouldnt even melt. yes, its BIG AND BULKY AND HUGE ugh. can i use it or do i need a new lighter frame? im thinking all i need is new frame and wheels? am i right or do i need anything else?

There's no difference between a street bike and a dirt bike, as long as you've got decent tires.

tru. so its final? im headed to roberts bikes after school, ill have to pick up some knobbys. ima pop off those slicks and on with the dirt tires, then grab a friend and head to the dirt. and toss the pegs. theyre so old and scratched from curbing anyway. lol

Don't get knobbies. Just get a wider tire up front, with a bit deeper treads. Fly Ruben's front and back, for example.

hm when i said knobbies i didnt mean those cheap five doller ones i meant dirt tires.

Yeah, I can see that, but when I think "knobbies" I think "knobbies," like the GT tires I ran back when I only rode trails.

I'm hooked on my Aitken tires. They are perfect size and just aggressive enough for wet trials but yet smooth enough for a skatepark.

I will probly try Rubens next.

I run rubens and love them. I used to run a M-tread in the rear and a holy roller up front and I liked that combo a lot too. However the Rubens hold a lot more psi then the holy roller and thier treads go on the the sidewall more. I thiink they ride a bit smoother too. PLus my rubens have lasted a lot longer than any other tires I have owned.

Speaking of tires, I have a thorn stuck in my back tire and air is slowly leaking out. I'm still riding it but I want it fixed so I don't have to get air everyday. I was thinking about a ruben but I don't know what size to get and I don't know if I even should get a whole new tire or should patch this one.

Patching a tire is not the greatest idea. Patching tubes is a good idea. Patches are so much less expensive than tubes and really save a lot of time, money, and effort.

Get the widest ruben the shop has and put it up front, get thier narrowest and put it on the back.

I'm not switching my front tire. I'm keeping the primo dirt monster up front. So get the smallest size for the back?

You don't patch the tire... You patch the tube. It dosent matter if there is a tiny hole in the tire.

I don't like super narrow on the back, looks really dumb and I prefer more cushion for back tyre tricks
