Ouch, broken bones do suck. You just have to think on the bright side... atleast he isn't paralyzed. Although, I couldn't imagine breaking my neck.

Yeah, he's really lucky he'll be able to walk again someday and not be stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Doesn't Al D do those with his eyes closed, no hands and tripping out on LSD?

Breaking bones sucks pretty damn hard, I guess he hasn't broken himself as many times as I have or he would realize it.

Firstly, he has suffered a very serious spinal injury. He has crushed his 3,4 and 5th cervical vertebrae and consequently suffered some damage to his spinal chord. He had a 7 hour operation on saturday to stabilise the chord and relieve some pressure. The front of his vertebrae were shattered and has been replaced.
Following a day of rest (sunday), he today goes in for a further 7 hour surgery to repair the back of his 3,4 and 5 vertebrae. This should allow some of the swelling to go down.
To let you know how things change, on saturday we were told he had no movement below his neck. Following saturdays surgery, we were all surprised when he shrugged his shoulders and now has some sensation on his upper left side of the body. This was really encouraging.
He is on a ventilator and therefore isn't able to talk but communication is possible. He is aware of his condition and is coping better than all of us. Don't forget how strong he is!
On friday we are expecting the ventilator to come out of his mouth and inserted in his neck which should make communication better, and him more comfortable.
He is in surgery now so the next update maybe tomorrow.
Thanks again for all your support, its unbelievable and a great comfort to us all.

Here's an update on Myspace I saw. It's his official support site.
Stephen came through his operation yesterday and the doctors were happy with the way it all went. Having thIs operation was the next big step that needed to happen. It was a big one at 7 hours but during that time they managed to stabilize his neck some more by pinning and plating the posterior side of his 3,4 and 5th cervical vertebrate. During this op, they also found he has fractured his T4 (4th thoracic vertebrate) and decided the best way for this to heal was to use a body brace.
There are a few further complications. He has a lot of crap on his lungs which is affecting his breathing. Because he is lying down, his lungs are flat and this enables all the crap to build on his lungs and increase the risk of him catching pneumonia.
He also has a stomach infection cause by his body being immune to regular antibiotics, so he is now on IV antibiotics for the next 5 days which should clear it up.
He also has trapped air in his neck and upper torso following the surgery which they are trying to get rid of. This is again affecting his ability to breath.
Increasing his ability to breath on his own is now their primary concern.
Hopefully later today they will sit him up in bed (as long as x rays come back to confirm the surgery has given sufficient support to his neck). Tomorrow they intend to put him in a wheelchair for at least 2 hours a day. This will be a big benefit to him as he wont be staring at the ceiling all the time and due to gravity this will help to disperse some of the crap and prevent the build up in his lungs.

Breaking bones suck.
I've broken vertebrate in my lower back, broke my left wrist twice, shattered the knuckle on my left pinky, had a fracture of my right collarbone, broken tail bone, left kneecap have broken 40 percent of the bones in my left foot(in the 23 years that I have been riding.) Broken a bunch of ribs, currently riding with a tear of my left mcl, and a broken big toe on my right foot and torn right and left rotator cuffs. Getting hurt sucks, anyone who says it doesn't suck has no clue.
Good luck Stephen Murray.

Broke my left one in 3 spots, forgot to add that to the list. When ever I have my hands on the handlebar, my left pink goes under my left ring finger.
