Miyata 1000

Thanks to all for the education. Seems the vendor who sold the bike to me was truthful when he said it is one of the best I could buy. My husband who is not a bike-enthusiast (like me) has heard a great deal about the Miyata. I agree that the best is likely the one under your ass that gets you from point A to B. My husband has encouraged that it is time to let the Miyata go to someone who will enjoy it. I’ve given him first right of refusal. I own the 1988 Miyata and a 1982 Datsun 280 GL Sports Coupe; both of which are currently dust collectors. At some point, I suppose I’ll have to make space in the garage for some new best vehicles.

Hi- I own a 1000. Great bike. I purchased mine back in the mid-1980's and it's still going strong. I don't know much about other bikes because the Miyata is pretty much my whole biking experience. I do remember returning to the store where I purchased my bike a year or two later and found no Miyatas in the shop. I asked the mechanic if the Miyata company went out of business. He said no. He told me the bicycle were too expensive to import into the US so the company abandoned the US market. He went on to say the bikes were still sold in other countries. I believe he said the frames were very expensive to build and something about an import tariff. Anyway, If you guys like your respective bikes as much as I like mine then its all academic-Well I'm going for a short ride now. I enjoyed the thread.

A bare Miyata 1000 frame just sold on Ebay for over $500, and I don't think it was in as nice a shape as yours. I don't mean to drive up prices, but if you're going to sell it (which is why people post here, right?) you might as well get the full market price for it.
