*Older* Bianchi, integrated headset

Any info? Kind of curious about an appraisal as well (be it as it sits, or restored). I'd want to replace the rear hanger that's been welded and isn't straight by anyway. I'd also re-chrome it, and get it looking nice. No components come with it besides the integrated headset and the bottom bracket. I had a number in mind that would likely be a safe bet to make enough to bother, but maybe I'm way off and it's worth more. I know the dropouts make it early 50s at the oldest, and mid 60s at the youngest, but other than that, my Bianchi knowledge is quite limited.

Thanks, cheers.

Looks like a 60's Specialissima. Here's a Specialissima frame that sold recently on ebay for $550 shipped, in much better shape than your example. The hole in the BB is a bit worrisome. Or is that an oil port?

The dropouts push it into the early 60's. The hole above the derailleur mount is for the sportsman model spring intro'd in like '62-'63, and the early 50's post toothed dropouts, from late '52 or '53 had larger adjustment screws a slightly different shape and different identification stampings on the face.

So, let's say probably 1963. The headset needs some work, stripping chrome and redoing it is not cheap. Most likely the bike was painted with some chrome showing.

To have it done well will cost, even if the frame was free, locating a suitable dropout with the hole or boss for the hole that can have a hole drilled in it will be work. The flat region that surrounds the spring locating hole went away a few years later during a retool, most of the dropouts for sale are not the "correct" type, close but not of the exact style, spending the big dollars on chrome and paint would not be worth it without tracking down the right part. It might be easiest to harvest the correct dropout from a donor frame of the right vintage with front end damage.

Too technical? When one is going to spend on a restoration and not for one's own use and pleasure, the criteria changes. Very few make money on a restoration save those who can do top notch work themselves.

I am happy I did not see that one, I would have been tempted. The frame not being in black or celeste dampened the price a bit, but only one bid, for the opening price. I agree, probably the same model.

Yep, started the bidding high, and probably scared away possible bidders. Received no bids on a previous listing starting at $595: https://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-BIANCHI-SPE...#ht_720wt_1139

There was a complete, mostly original black on SF CL for $500 not long ago. Someone got lucky: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...i#post11951102

Thanks for the eBay/CL listings - it gives me a good idea. I think my number was right on point. I did indeed plan to do the majority of the work myself - chrome to a friend who gives me a great deal (...generally free). Even still, my number considering all the obvious things wrong was pretty low . All the linked bikes seem to have actual headbadges, while this one is a sticker. Does that make this one lower on the totem?
