found 2 bikes today at local thrift shop for $7 each, what is it worth
so found these today at a local thrift shop for $7 bucks each (canadian no less).
unfortunately one is way too big and one is way too small so the only joy i will reap from these is profit no road time.
which brings me to my next question, what are they worth.
I'm thinking $150 and $500 respectively?

the first one is a 25 inch excellent condition Schwinn World Sport

and the second is a very very good condition Joe Gardin 400 with Shimano 600,very small at 20 inches though.

What is the label at the top of the seat tube on the Gardin? I'm assuming that hi-ten label is wrong due to the Cro-Moly fork. I sold a Shogun 800 for $260 that had similar components and a Tange #2 frame, so I'm guessing somewhere around there depending on the market.
As for the Schwinn, finding a buyer for something that large will be difficult. I'd say $125 on the high end, but that would be with new tires. I sold one that needed a full overhaul for $50-ish.

One of those two labels didn't come from the factory. A bike might have a Chromoly frame and HiTen fork, but rarely do you ever see a Chromoly fork ona HiTen frame.
What does the little decal at the top of the seattube say? I suspect someone put that HI Ten decal on thinking it would add a little bling to the bike.

With a good detailing and new tires , I could see $150 out of your Schwinn . Not sure about the Gardin, but agree that there is something fishy about the decals.

$500 for the Gardin? No way. Cheap swaged crank typical of lower end bike. Desirable size and nice paint might push it up a little, say $175, $200 max in ready to ride condition. Early 600 showed up on entry level and department store bikes. Nothing in common with newer Shimano 600.

Since you are near Toronto, you could probably get $150 for the Schwinn and $100 for the Gardin at this time of the year; add another $50 if you wait until the spring.
A few years ago I would have said that you could get a bit more for the Gardin but the market is a lot more educated about bikes now and will know that this Gardin is low-end crap and not one of the more desirable frames that were made by Joe Gardin.
I would suggest that you take the pedals off of the Gardin and sell them separately, you might get $20 for them on their own.

+1 there's no way the Gardin is worth $500, sorry. I'd agree with $125-150 as-is.
The World Sport is an older model (1979-1981 IIRC without looking at the catalogs.) They were quite a bit lower end back then, before they improved in the later 80s. Does yours have steel rims? I would be looking at $100 max for that bike.

Pre 1984 WS, like this one, are really basic.
Toronto is a hot market, so we'll see.
+1 Best to air up tires.

It looks like he didn't even take the time to air up the tires.

As is with no clean up or work at this time of year in Canada whith the snow starting to fall I doubt the OP will get these prices. Also I agree the early World Sports where pretty basic if anything they where a step down from Schwinns basic 70's stuff, worse paint and I don't consider the cheap lug work an improvement over the falet brazed stuff and the components exspecially wheels weren't great.

Chances are you can get these prices come the Spring in your market with a little effort it's just not likely at this time of year. Surprisingly there is a small time frame during the first week of January that bikes sell pretty good. But there is no harm in listing the bikes and asking guestions being a little more will often get seller $50 or so more dollars on these kind of bikes.

Asking prices are pretty much inline. Gives you a little wiggle room on both bikes. As mentioned, it never hurts to start out high.
Overall not a bad payday, no matter what the final price is.

AISI 1530 is high manganese carbon steel, a step above 1020 or 1030 "plain" carbon steel, so to me it's not that unlikely the frame is 1530 and the fork blades are chromoly.
