Is this a Galmozzi ?
I stumbled into this CL this morning and couldn't pass just for the group & price. Seller said he was told by the previous owner it was a Galmozzi. Well from the details I see that may be so. What do you think? the DR is 73 & crank is 74, wheels are 27 & seatpost is 27.2. The lugs look right and it looks like there are 7 holes in the BB sort of plugged up. Fork grown looks right, long campi droupouts.

Careful, I've heard of lots of fakes out there. Maybe it's a good sign that there are no Galmozzi decals on it, being an obvious repaint..... so at least we can say that it's not trying to be a Galmozzi until further evidence and provenance is collected....

There are fakes...or others who imitated the lugwork, and the bikes were then badged as Galmozzi. This doesn't look like a fake - it looks like it has nothing to do with Galmozzi.

Wasn't there another thread like this with another repainted "Galmozzi" - or perhaps this one - and getting the same answers - about six months ago?

Another It's a nice frame I'd like to figure out what it is. It's too big for me. I got it for the Nuevo Record group & early logo Cinelli bars & stem. |
I don't know, you guys all seem to be judging this against a 60's Galmozzi. Models from the later 70's are very similar to this. It's tough tell anything with that thick re-paint globbed on. But I would not rule it out at all. If it were mine it would be covered in Jasco right now. I'd want to see it naked as soon as possible.

It does look a lot like the one you gave the link for; I can't see anything that definitely says it's not a Galmozzi. It would be interesting to check under the thick layer of paint on the head tube to see if there is an ID stamp.
If it were my size and a reasonable price, I would be willing to take a chance on it for a project. If it's not a Galmozzi I'd still have a nice frame. If it were a Galmozzi...:thumb: |

The lugs look nicely filed to me but it's difficult to tell with the 1/16" thick coat of paint (powder coat?) it's wearing.

The tip on the underside of the top tube tapers to almost nothing. The others have a nice taper to them. It is powdercoat and black and hard to tell the detailing. It is at the office and can't come home just yet ;). My pix aren't the best as I was supposed to be working, I picked it up at lunch. I haven't been able to look it over all that well.
Does anyone know when he started stamping the headtube. I looked and couldent see anything. I also read that it was often faint enough to miss unless you are looking at bare metal or thin paint. |

Powder coating a (possible) Galmozzi? Can we bring back drawing and quartering? At least they didn't cut off the hanger.
It looks like a nice enough frame to pay to have it stripped. |
Looks similar to the (restored) Galmozzi that was on display in the Tallerico booth at the 2012 NAHBS. Definitely looks like a nice frame, Galmozzi or not. Fork crown on the one below isn't the same, but it's more similar to the OPs than KonAaron Snake's 1960s example. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

In your photos , there are a few elements to identify if Galmozzi .You have to show the vent holes of the rear vertical , inner fork , fork vent holes , bridge attack rear brake , rear dropouts , at a minimum

That photo of the restored ( although bad restoration ) is definitely a Galmozzi

Galmozzi used different fork crown , different lugs , sometimes mixed sets. But there are some key points that hardly changed.

there is no precise rule for identifying a Galmozzi , but to recognize the "hand " of those who have made it through some details , which are not necessarily the conjunctions or serial number or holes under the bb or otherwise.The Galmozzi , father and son have indulged lot |

I stripped the headtube and there was no mark, but it was obvious by the deep marks all going the same direction it had been stripped with a course wire brush. I think , after detailed photos , can say to the 99 % that it is Galmozzi , probably in the late 70s , I believe it is absolutely worthwhile to bring it back to its ancient splendor . My compliments
