Falcon San Remo

.
...turned out pretty. I wonder why more bikes don't get painted this color?

I really like that color. It's a bit lighter than a Carlton blue, right?

As far as fork crown, I had a Falcon San Remo without a sloping crown but also unlike the one shown on the OP's bike:

..I don't know for sure, but I googled up some images of a couple of others, and it appears there was a model sold only in the USofA for a time that had this fork and crown on it.

...yes. Once I had it cleaned and polished up a little I was surprised at how much I like the color.

I'm very glad most of the paint was intact over the chrome, because I think it might be hard to match. The decals were easily sourced from Cyclomondo.

Most of the no. 76s extent in the U.S. seem to be similar to the machine depicted here, dating from c. 1971-73 with flat fork crown, white downtube and seat tube bands and chromed Prugnat lugs. It is quite possible these were for export to the American market only as they differ in some aspects from the models depicted in the catalogues.

I had a Falcon Model 76 with that same fully chromed fork and sloping fork crown. It was a touring version of the 76 with centerpulls, clearance for fenders, dropout eyelets and chrome Nervex lugs and Campy NR components.

That Falcon link from Peter Kohler shows a bike from the Campus Bike Shop in Columbus Ohio. That huge shop was packed with all kinds of lugged goodness in the early seventies and they sold a lot of Falcons. I still see 40 year old Falcons in bike racks, on the front of buses, and on local bike paths.

You have a very nice bike. I plan to own that model in that color when I find one.

I have an early 70's San Remo 76. I came with an all chrome flat crown, round section track style fork w/ Campy road drop-outs & fender eyelets.

It was all DB 531, campy NR/Record, Fiamme yellow rims, Cinelli Bar & stem, Brooks pro saddle and Weinmann 750 CP's with more than enough clearance for fenders,
minimal fork rake and a short wheel base.
