Differences in Wippermann Chains Advice Needed
Hi all, trying to standardise on chain brands so I don't have to buy more chain breakers and joining link tools as I have several to service.
The connex chain on my Vetta 8 speed was fitted in 1999 with a campag cassette. I've broken two teeth on the high gear and it still won't slip (probably not very safe).
So want to get a Wippermann chain for the Raleigh and need some advice.
Wippermann seem to market the 7 as suitable from 5 to 7 speed and the 8 as suitable from 6 to 8 speed.
I've pasted the specs from their website below and can't see the difference apart from the 7 is slightly wider, is a basic chain without the connex link whereas the 8 has chamfered sides and connex link which if running a 5 speed would seem a better.
Does anyone have experience or advice on running an 8 series chain on a 5 speed cluster?
Cheers, Matthew

I'd run the 8, make sure you get enough links.
Never a problem with Wippermans, I just couldn't afford them.
When they went to Connex-Wipperman and were $40 at my door, they became my chain of choice.
I use C's for Campy, S's for Shimano and SRAM.
The Master Link works. They last well. They take lube, and don't cost a fortune.
Done deal.

Ok thanks for the advice so an 8 series will fit a 5 speed cluster. Good, I'll go with that
