Custom stem is in the design phase. And now I've signed up for some custom saddle work too. Still trying to decide on components. I have a good idea of what I want, but the group, the wheels, and all other bits and pieces will have to wait.

In the meantime, she's a wall hanger.

Beauty. What direction are you heading with the build?

I've lost sleep over which way to go, and think I'm going modern 11sp mechanical campy. I don't like the crank esthetics of the new super record, but 2014 and back looks good, to my eyes at least.

May cause some nauseated responses from the c&v crowd here, but my reasoning goes like this:
1. It already spread/ made to 130 mm
2. It is not an old bike, rather a new bike, just made by the master.
3. It's my bike and I can do whatever I want :-P

Haven't made a wheel choice yet, but some of the h plus son options are looking good right now.
Going 11 sp will take a little more time just because the group cost is high and I want it all in new condition.

I also decided to make this an apprenticeship build. I have a mechanic who I trust, and I'm going to build it with him so he can guide me along so I don't screw it up. I have a good relationship with the shop and that way we can build it there off hours.

I would strongly consider a set of Campy Neutrons and a Campy Athena groupset from Ribble.

Or find an excellent condition Chorus 10 speed alloy groupset.

I like the Campy 11-spd idea; my choice would be a silver Athena group (have just never warmed to the carbon or black components). It's not a vintage frame but has a classic look and the group should compliment it well.

Have looked at a set of neutrons and that may be the wheel choice that suits it best. I know the silver Athena is a smoking deal from ribble, but I think black sets this one off better with the lugs being black. I have yet to see any smoking deals on super record sets.

Gotta go with your heart on these choices!

My son's Della Santa with Neutrons. Very tough to beat the performance for the $$$, especially if you can dig up a clean used set like I did.

About the price of a Surly Cross Check.

He is doing long distance rides all summer and is definitely piling on the miles. He's all leg and excellent cardio from a decade of high level soccer.

The bike works perfectly for him.

That's a very nice looking frame, but I believe it's a Billato built Ciocc, not a Pelizzoli built bike. Nothing wrong with that, BTW. The Billato Bros built Sean Kelly's PDM Concorde's, as well as Lemond's Team Z and GAN bikes, as well as early LeMond branded bikes.
