My dreams are usually chaotic, with some impossible deadline for which I'm not prepared. Why didn't I go to class all semester? Where is my car? Why can't I move any faster?

I had one of those last night, that featured my now-deceased brother. It was sad, sort of. I kept thinking "how am I going to bike commute from NJ this morning?"

Anyway, I don't have a dream bike... I'd like to try a titanium frame someday, I guess.

I don't have a dream bike, too many other things going on.

I pursued one bike for 2 years, finally picked up the frame and built it, Cinelli carbon.
I had no clue about one bike, and bought it on impulse, can't imagine not having it, Wraith.

I'd love to have one of these.

am just kiddin. I posed this question to the techs at my LBS. Most of the responses were $$ based. I said, "no, no....this is not about maximizing what you could sell the bike for..." Its just a chance to think. Really think about a dream combo. Maybe, most people already have there dream bike. As, someone mentioned in this thread, I think my dream bike changes over time, its evolving.

I'd go for either a vintage Eisentraut or vintage Ron Cooper frame with Campy 10-speed components, the ones that predate 11-speed and preferably in silver.

Oh, wait. I already have both of those. And I'm not giving them up, either.

It was my 65th birthday/retirement gift to myself in 2007, and admittedly I splurged. It's everything I hoped it would be and more.

I don't mind sharing what it cost (in 2007) in a PM.

Something from no later than the early seventies, that rode in the Tour de France, or one of the Classics, by some domestique, in my size. Really, the only unequivocal and essential detail is that I know the stories and the history of the bike. The bikes that I do own are closer than I ever imagined I would ever get to a "dream" bike, parts/materials/fancy smanchy wise. Lots of them are more bike than I will ever do justice to. But none of them came with this.

I keep thinking about picking up something really special but several thoughts keep getting in the way. First, some of the bikes I was fortunate to find by happy accident are pretty special already, the kind of bike I might have dreamed about 40 years ago. They'd be hard to beat.

Second, it might be nice to have a custom bike by one of the current great builders, perhaps by Peter Mooney who is just 5 minutes away, or anyone else, maybe even on the Renovo wood frame bikes. But even though all my current bikes feel different from each other, I couldn't say which is better or worse than the others. So a custom bike might feel different but I'm not sure about it being better. It could maybe be designed with my personal riding style in mind, but the truth is I'm not sure I could describe what that is. If a builder's first question is "Why?" or "What would you like it to be?" or "How would you ride it?", I'm not sure I could answer.

Better to dream about a dream bike than actually to have one.

+1. Like Jim, I don't think you're suppose to own a dream bike. Then it wouldn't be a dream anymore.

I would probably ask Mr. Weigle to build me a bike. I must give him credit for re-igniting my interest in cycling. A couple years back I decided to get back into cycling after not riding for 10 yrs. I got this grand idea I has going to have a bike built. Sure, no big deal, how much could that cost, right? Well, I read somewhere online about a fella named Weigle that had a shop right down the road from me in Connecticut. Heck, I'll give him a call. He answered on the second ring. Mind you, I had no idea who this guy was other than he built frames. Well, he talked to me, I listened. He gave me 45 mins of his day. We spoke about frame geometries, 650b wheels, frame material, etc, etc... He was very patient and kind. I didn't know jack about bikes and he could have been harsh and cut me off. Well...that conversation re-kindled my love of bikes.

Oh, and he kindly told me its a 5 yr wait for a bike.....

I have the bikes I want...which isn't to say there aren't others I'd still be interested in. I guess the stuff I'd still like to try would include an Umberto Marnati, moots, Kvale, an MXL and a true rando bike - perhaps a weigle. I'd live to try an earlier italian with cambio Corsa...maybe a Dei.

I can't really imagine another bike being much better for me than my Marnati



Daniele built it wonderfully and it does exactly what I want. It looks like I wanted it to look and it rides how I want it to ride.

I counted my off-road bikes last night.

I have five including my Niner mtb.

I would like to consolidate a bit and I think this "dream bike" Moots Routt 45 will cover the bases other than the Niner.

Any new Moots frameset is spendy, but I have decided to see what one of the Routt 45s would set me back if I sold my cross bikes and my single speed mtbs.

While this is hardly c&v material, it does point the direction towards the type of riding I find myself doing the past three years.

I'll likely go electronic Ultegra and definitely Shimano 785 hydraulic discs.
