Modifying a French Chain guard for a derailleur
Hello Enthusiasts,
Here are some in progress photos of my Velo Orange French chain guard. I wanted to use it because I love the styling, but it's only meant to be used with single speed cranks. I didn't want to change any components.
So I'm modifying it to make room for the derailleur
Marking where I want to cut it:

Rounding off the corners with a pneumatic grinder

Making cuts with a pneumatic metal cutter

Using a nail file to finish it off

Added a new hole and rounded off the edges

All done with the shaping. Sanded with sandpaper to get rid of the shine and make it look vintage

On the bike for mock up. Installation next time

Thanks for viewing - Rob

Pretty crafty, and just pretty! Nice touch blending the new guard in with the old bike.
Have you put it to the road test ?

Thank you all!
Will be doing the mounting hardware this weekend, so no road tests until that happens.

I like your 18-speed hybrid drive train. I had a 14-16-18-20 Cyclo cluster on a standard wide-range Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub, and I would have loved to run a half-step pair of chainrings, e.g. 40-38, with it.
