Isn't that the truth. Every time I get on one my old Cannondale's I'm reminded of just how far bikes have come. My modern Synapse with its 10 speed bifters and a compact crank is so "simple" to ride compared to the old stuff with DT shifters and 5 or 6 speeds on a full size crank. Must admit though it is kind of cool to go flying by a modern bike as you reach down to shift into a higher gear.

Why did Cannondale cheap out on the top tube cable mounts? I know there are aftermarket 3D printed replacements but I would love to fashion some cool aluminum pieces and use a rivet gun to secure them.

I'm thinking about MacGyver-ing (the original made for TV of course) custom mounts but I haven't figured out how to machine aluminum. Mebbe I can stop by one of the maker spaces (might cost me an arm/leg )

OMG, I didn't read the "fine print". I assumed they were the plastic ones that everyone's selling as aftermarket!

I still might fashion my own just for the satisfaction and coolness factor. I thought about using eye screws, that would be unique and cheap.

I've gone back and forth on getting a set as one of the retainers on my wife's ST400 is pretty mangled. I was able to force one of the loops back into shape and it's holding the cable for now, so I'll probably just stick with what's there until one of them truly breaks and the cable goes wandering.

I'm thinking I might be able to find some aluminum tubing and somehow attach the pegs. If I don't come up with a suitable solution, I'll break down and buy the pre-made ones.

Found this when I was looking for guides for my ongoing project - check out post #9 of this thread: Cannondale plastic top tube cable guides. I wimped out and went the Shapeways (3D printing) route.

I guess if I wanted the satisfaction of doing it myself it would be worth the effort..I have got to the point that when I add up the time to purchase all the parts, gasoline and going back again because I needed something different 33 dosn't seem to much to spend wrap ties are looking better all the time.

Well, I got the 1989 Cannondale ST600 out yesterday for a 50 miler - it should have been a 55 mile ride, but I just ran out of gas. The bike rode great. The Compass tires were really nice, and the Selle Anatomica saddle was great too. No issues with the bike at all, just the issue with the rider's gas tank running empty. Oh, well, that is fixable (at least to some degree). Very pleased with the way the bike rode and pleasantly surprised with the tires and saddle.

I really dislike the rumble strips at the side of the road. I guess it was a good test for the frame pump, and it stayed in place just fine. Same for the out-front gps mount too, the gps stayed right where it was supposed to be. But there wasn't much pavement to the outside of the rumble strip in some places and trying to stay in a 4 inch wide strip of asphalt became really annoying after a few forays into the rumble strips. The tires just couldn't soak up those kind of pavement irregularities (but they were actually pretty regular, in all honesty).

I think this squeezes into the vintage category...1997 R500...bought it from my neighbor who was moving...used it as a backup bike...just tuned it and put a new bottom bracket on it as well as a new saddle and as to not hurt my bum...rides beautifully!

It does seem like there have been more smaller-framed bikes available lately. I'm very happy with my ST600, and I just picked up a nice Masi as well. it's not even here yet. The Masi will get a 3x10 Campy Chorus group, once I get the paint touched up. Tubulars on Mavic rims with Chorus hubs. Should be a great ride.

I will have a very nice 52cm CAAD8 BBQ F/F/HS for sale pretty soon, if that interests you. I'll post it in the classifieds when I clean it up.

What size frames do you ride? I understand the "dang it, too short" thing, though the gems I/we do find we cherish. I ride anything from 62-65cm (with a mx TT length of 60cm), though I prefer a 63.5cm (25") and 58cm TT as the ideal. Need some frames???

Ok i know this is stretching the "Vintage" part but anymore any good bike with a quill stem.. can be vintage in my book. just picked this up a really good deal.

1998 Multisport 1000. it was their "Tri" bike . interesting enough its a 58cm frame and it has 650c wheels. this will be my first bike with 650c !

Someone gave this to my nextdoor neighbor, who didn't know what to do with it and was going to throw it out. I relieved him of it instead. Apart from the stem, pedals and tires, I believe it is all stock. Pretty sure it's a 1996 model. I'm hoping it will be a gateway road bike for my 12-year-old daughter.

Pulled this '87 SR400 together for a quick flip. Only because it's not my size, though. This is my favorite of the OG Cannondale colorways, it looks rad even all torn up.
