Schwinn Suburban found in trash
Hi, I'm a new member... and while today bike riding with a friend, we saw two vintage schwinn suburbans and another schwinn that was early 90's. I think i've gotton close to saying my schwinn suburban was from the 70's. After pumping up the worn out tires, and lubricating the chain, gears and wheels, it was a great ride. Needs a litte bit of a fix up, and has quite a bit of rust, but nothing a little naval jelly can't fix. It has a speedometer and odometer, but they are no longer hooked up... hopefully i can find some parts to get it working again... it has about 1370 miles on since working condition. Also has a generated powered light on front, which needs a new bulb, and the wire needs to be hooked back up. I left my camera at my friend's house, so can't get pictures in till tomorrow. This has to be the best "garbage" I have ever found! Can't wait to get to work! I will be restoring it, but will be trying to keep it as original as possible. I will not be giving it another pant job... the sierra brown looks pretty good. Man... this bike find has really pumped me up for biking... Me and my friend are going to fix up our bikes for next weekend to wake up early and get a good ride, and maybe meet up with a group of morning bikers. I'll keep you all updated.

Hi, everyone. Got some pictures of the bike... Also if anyone knows what year this bike is, that would be great. Thanks!

Looks like a German Union fork-mount dynamo headlamp, and an IKA speedo -- made in Holland, I think. Both were 'Schwinn-approved' accessories sold by Schwinn dealers in the '70s.

why aren't you going to give it a new pant job?
the best schwinns are always free and in perfect condition, 35 years old and only needs air in the tires and maybe freeing up the chain. i accidentally paid 15 bucks for one of mine, but seriously it looks like it just rolled off the line (but the brakes are squeaky) and they are practical as heck and worth every dime spent

I just saw a nice 70's Schwinn Varsity at a local thrift. A beautiful blue with blue tape, and in excellent condition. I briefly considerd buying it as it reminded me of good times growing up, but didn't. I didn't buy it for two reasons:
1) They wanted $60.00 for it
2) I needed both arms to pick it up
You wouldn't think one could put a price on cherished childhood memories, but it turns out you can....

I'm going to look at a Suburban in about an hour. The old fellow wants $50 for it. I'm hoping I can talk him down quite a bit.
