1991. I'd been training for PBP since 1988. Best shape of my life then. Hit close to 70mph on one downhill somewhere around Carhaix. Was on an 84hr pace until my body crapped out in VJ and it took me 11 hours to finish the last 75 miles.
Not sure I ever recovered from the beating I gave myself back then but I do find myself hitting the binders when when the speedo ticks past 35mph. Also seem to appreciate going on a lot shorter and slower rides now.
