By the way, turn around time was under six hours, unless you count the weekend during which it was AWOL. @gugie, you may want to note that this is a $18.75 flat rate box now. Mo better crap! |

Robbie, that'd be perfect - you're next on the list anyway I see. I'll stick 'em in an envelope tomorrow if I find 'em tonight :)
DD BTW, more cat toys! edit: just noticed that we've got some real heavy hitters coming up! To be downstream in the next few weeks should be interesting! |
I'd like some Record EPS when the box comes to me. Complete groupset would be nice. Don't be cheap!

Okay, seriously... this was the biggest BOC I've seen yet, so it probably is a bigger size. Prices may also have gone up. The bigger size is probably a good idea, since it increases the odds of finding something useful in it, but... eh. It's a crap shoot. |
Okay, I have 16 BOC decals from bitd. These are probably test-shots from before they ever went into the original box. So the next dozen or so peeps will have some bragging rights ;)
Robbie: as soon as you PM your mailing addy I will stick them in the mail. They're in an envelope ready to go. DD |

Pinging the current BOC queue for a rule update. The USPS has raised the price of a large priority mail box to $18.75. Since you all signed up for this game under a $15.75 box, as Crapmaster I feel obligated to let you all know. I have already changed the rules in the primary post. Anybody too damn cheap to deal with a $3 increase in postage for a bunch of crappy bike stuff, the odd cat toy, etc. then let me know by PM and I'll remove your name on the sly, and only I will know the identify of the skinflint(s) who back out.
I mean, we're all just throwing our money away at a bunch of crap anyway, right? I guess they didn't appreciate the extra exercise we are prescribing for them. Just need to elevate the crap quality a skosh (though it seems to be quite elevated from round 4).

Hell, I thought it was $10. Doesn't matter, I'll make sure it has the value.

Just out of curiosity, I checked the volume and cost per unit volume of the various medium and large flat rate boxes available from the USPS. Here's what I found:
>>> 11 * 8.5 * 5.5 # medium flat rate in^3 514.25 >>> 12 * 12 * 5.5 # large flat rate in^3 792.0 >>> 11.875 * 3.375 * 13.625 # medium flat rate side loaded in^3 546.064453125 >>> (23+11/16) * 11.75 * 3 # large flat rate game box in^3 834.984375 >>> 13.45 / (11 * 8.5 * 5.5) # medium flat rate $/in^3 0.02615459406903257 >>> 18.75 / (12 * 12 * 5.5) # large flat rate $/in^3 0.023674242424242424 >>> 13.45 / (11.875 * 3.375 * 13.625) # medium flat rate side loaded $/in^3 0.02463079206681331 >>> 18.75 / ((23+11/16) * 11.75 * 3) # large flat rate game box $/in^3 0.022455510020771348 It looks like the best value would be the large flat rate game box, though it's very small in one dimension. If you want to cut the cost, the side loaded medium flat rate box looks like a reasonable compromise. I suspect if we switched to the smaller box it wouldn't be too hard to find some lesser crap to throw overboard. |
Hmmmm. This is getting good. I'm mulling over what to put in the box, despite the fact that I'm way down the list. I have some Sturmey Archer AW hubs and a couple of G6 front hubs. Those would be bulky and heavy. I don't really have any high end road sorts of items, although have some SunTour goodies...derailleurs, shifters. Of course if I add a SA hub I'll wrap it well in plastic so it doesn't drain oil everywhere.

Velocivixen Weight, obviously, doesn't matter. You just need to make sure the box is in good enough shape to handle it. I recommend gluing some cardboard reinforcements in the corners. In fact, maybe we should make that a requirement gugie? We've had it up to around 27 pounds before. I once received the box in pieces, everything in a reinforced USPS plastic bag. Regarding hubs leaking oil, I'm sure that fluid leaking through the box would raise alarm bells at USPS.
While USPS will ship it, I really doubt the letter carriers love it when a 25# box comes through. |

Decals are headed Robbie's way as of this morning.

Yeah, I'll be thoughtful about the box and if it looks like it needs some "help" I'm happy to do as you suggest. Don't know that I'd actually put a hub in, but you never know. :thumb:

When the B'o'Crap arrives, I'll hold it until the decals arrive.
When the decals arrive, I'll keep one and put the rest on eBay. Then I'll send the box on to Henry III, right? |

gugie, I'm fine with the midstream rule change.
Do we really have to keep reusing the same box? What would be so bad about replacing it every few hops? |
Still in for some crappy fun here, thanks for the heads up Cap'n.

re: Increased Postage
Money is no object with something so curiously awesome as the B.O.C. Heck, it helped make my Takara vaguely rideworthy! |

Folks, if you're "next in line", just plan on picking up a new, free box at the post office. Don't try putting a box within a box, pretty soon it'd be all box, no crap.
