I have a bunch of 1/4" plywood. Should I make a wood box to fit in the cardboard box? Or would a rigid box be more likely to suffer damage?

Probably not a good idea - it will add to the already substantial weight of the box. Looking back, I've seen 25lbs or more as the stated weight of the Box when filled to the brim with Crap. A new box at each subsequent stopover should be anticipated; I think this suggestion was floated some time ago. A little extra reinforcing at the corners will pretty much assure one trip and keep anything from poking out a corner and escaping :)

I'm fairly sure that the max weight for a Priority Mail box is 30 lbs. I know that from sending a box of freewheels to PastorBobinnh.

jyl 04-29-16 06:24 PM

Well. I'm gonna lighten the box some!

Well, sure - that's half the point :)

That box looked fine when it left here Monday!

Between a bit of humidity and a couple odd shaped entries, I noticed a bit of deterioration from arrival to departure.

Houston, The Box Has Landed.

And . . . we need a new box. Have to go to the Post Office and pick one up.

I'll post the required BoC photos, and get this sent out, tommorrow!

Shoot, and The Crapmaster was thinking he might see some crap after our ride Monday...get it sent it, matriculate the ball downfield!

I'm terribly sorry, but I failed to take the required photo of the BoC just after opening. I blame my daughter, who excitedly dove into the box as soon as the flaps were turned. Within seconds the contents were strewn across the table. I didn't photograph it then, to preserve the surprise!

Allowing me to take a complete inventory. Hmm, there is enough stuff in this box to almost build a bike!

I removed some crap. Conveniently for those downstream, much of it was heavy crap. Photo below, and it doesn't show a couple of chainrings also claimed by moi.

I added some crap. Lighter, smaller, and nicer crap. Look closely, future recipients!

The BoC is on its way, this morning, to Sir_Name. Slightly lighter, slightly fuller, and in a shiny new box!

I would like to note, for future recipients of said box, that should "VC" appear among the crap, it does not mean "Vietcong".

And that t-shirt continues its journey!

Getting excited... that sucker's almost headed back to AZ!! :D

Oh wow that came up quickly. May I request you get a new box? There are some logistical challenges to me getting a new one. Being that I need to go to my uncle's home in Washington to get and ship I may need a day or two extra.

Fahrenheit531 04-30-16 01:36 PM

Narhay - I could manage that. :)

USAZorro 04-30-16 04:54 PM

I meant to give Roethlisberger a Sharpie moustache, but I guess it's all for the best. :D

Glad you got the bug. lol

Put yourself right after jyl and it will get to you quickly. :innocent:

It is strangely gratifying to see something that you put into the box get claimed. I'm sure nlerner (blessed be his name for eternity) has gotten quite a blast from it. I think that what we have here is an empirical validation of the principles of karma. :)

Cool shirt, but I'm size Medium, and not aspiring to XL. :D

I was tempted, but jyl already shipped!

It is true, and scientifically proven that it IS better to give than to receive.

Whether selfish, or altruistic, it doesn't matter much in that regard. Hoping others find usefulness in the other 5 or 6 items I inserted.

On another note - in the past, the moderators did a "secret Santa". It worked well within the pre-stated guidelines. I think C&V would be a good community for a similar event.

nlerner 04-30-16 08:12 PM

I was just glad to get a boxload full of crap out of my basement.

Sir_Name 04-30-16 09:03 PM

Looking forward to getting some crap on a bike and adding some to the box!

Sir_Name 05-02-16 01:09 PM

Fun stuff - there's some really neat crap in that box.

Big thanks to whoever threw the sprocket in there, I needed exactly that- tooth count and everything.

I've got the box repacked and it will head out the door tomorrow or Wednesday.

eastbay71 05-02-16 01:26 PM

Alright the box is moving quickly! Only 8 moer names until it comes to me :)

Now you've done it! You have publicly coveted the Box O' Crap. The Gods are displeased. You must confess your sins and, as penance, when the box reaches you, you must pull everything out, donate it all to your local bike co-op, and replace it all with NOS crap. Be thankful. It could have been worse. Luckily sacrifice to Kong was not involved...
