Aria couldn't be bothered to take an interest in the crap.

She missed out of some good stuff. Here's my haul.

It's mostly stuff that will be useful on a retro-roadie build, as befits my tastes. I don't generally go for flat bar bikes, but I really loved these M600 Servo Wave brake levers. I'm thinking I might rebuild my single speed Nishiki Olympic (which also got the parts from my last culling of crap) as a 1x6 townie. Who knows, I might even ride it like that. :innocent:

I'm hoping to get the crap back in the mail tomorrow.

Andy_K 07-22-17 03:58 PM

Like a retiree in September, the crap is on its way to Arizona.

J.Oxley, lift with your legs, not your back.

USAZorro 07-22-17 04:03 PM

Whoo-hoo. That means I'm on deck. :D

Velocivixen 07-22-17 04:40 PM

How come all the good crap shows up after the box leaves my bike cave!? It's just not fair.

File a complaint with your local B.O.C. Union Rep. ;)

One trick is to know who to get in line after. :D

I wonder if somehow the crappiest crap could just be purged as it's just taking up space and preventing better crap from being included. Not quite sure the process for that: Maybe a soon-to-be recipient might offer an pictorial inventory list? gugie would need to rule on this radical idea.

I believe that is a perfectly acceptable practice, as long as you keep the box full from your stash. I've taken stuff out, and donated it to the local co-op in previous rounds. My rule of thumb is to leave the crap quality better than you found it.

ecnewell 07-22-17 06:12 PM

Those servo-wave levers gathered dust on my pegboard for far too long, glad they'll get put to use!

Andy_K 07-22-17 06:19 PM

I thought I had read that we're encouraged to remove obviously useless crap. I'm just not sure where the line is. I'd toss half the box if it were my own judgment. I did remove one item that I think I put in there back in November that made it back to me. Fitting more crap in the box wasn't quite as hard this time, but it is still pretty full.

Perhaps we could have a temporary(?) rule that until the quality of the crap improves everyone must remove (and post a picture of) at least one thing that they don't want and don't think anyone else would either. If anyone further down the list wants it, they can claim it, otherwise it goes to the recycling bin. Additional shipping cost would be minor, but enough to encourage shrewd judgment in selecting the crap to discard.

FBOATSB 07-22-17 06:45 PM

Or just get a bigger box?

Fahrenheit531 07-22-17 07:44 PM

Last time the box was here I removed a substantial amount of s--t (not to be confused with crap) that was so bad I didn't even take it to the co-op. I strongly encourage anyone, if they see something that is truly useless, to take immediate action.

Better to ask forgiveness than permission. ;)

jyl 07-22-17 11:16 PM

I completely agree. The last two times I've had the box, I've removed pounds of the crappiest stuff - the low end mismatched cranks, steel sit up and beg stems, steel chainring, etc. Good karma comes from sending the box on with clearly better stuff than you received.

Maybe the next recipient can think of a need for about five front derailleurs . . .

Drillium Dude 07-22-17 11:21 PM

I didn't even keep anything the last time I got the box - other than one or two of RaleighSport's decals. I got rid of some ****ty crap, tho :)

I never seem to come after those known to put some extra-special crap in there. Oh, well, first-world problems, you know!

I am more waiting for it to arrive so that I can put a couple items in this go-around. I know I won't use them, but darned sure someone out there will.

Velocivixen 07-22-17 11:22 PM

I like where this conversation is going. My rule of thumb is that I include things which are functional - that someone could actually take and use right away. I would never dishonor the B.O.C. by submitting into it, something completely useless.

nlerner 07-23-17 08:47 AM

I really don't care if I pull anything useful from the BOC as my basement bins remain pretty full. I do like to put at least one odd NOS piece in there, as well as some reading material.

Gawd, ain't there enough rules already?

This is really the thing to consider. I've gotten some neat crap, but outside of RaleighSport's custom decals, can't remember what it was. I do remember stuff I put in and was taken by a player downstream. On that day my bike feels lighter, the ride is mostly downhill with the wind to my back, and young ladies smile and wave at me when I go by.

When a Crapmaster Emerti speaks, we should all listen.

That's what my daughter's always saying. But you know I'm a software guy -- more constraints are often a way I try to solve problems.

Fahrenheit531 07-24-17 08:32 PM

The BOC has landed safely in Tucson, AZ. Pics to follow later tonight or early tomorrow. WOOHOO!!

Fahrenheit531 07-25-17 08:57 PM

Yep. It's full of crap.

It's BIO-crap - and it's flowing smoothly!

Idk, BioPace is kind of high-end for the BOC. Now if it were OvalTech or some other off-brand, then we'd be talking crap!

Andy_K 07-26-17 03:04 PM

I was going to throw those out when I had the BOC, just because they're such an abomination. Then I remembered that some people actually like BioPace. It takes all kinds, I guess.

They pack relatively flat, at least.

Fahrenheit531 07-26-17 09:43 PM

Well I guess the BioCrap was a diversion...?
My haul:

The real trick is gonna be leaving the box better than I found it! :)
