I've updated mine with Brooks bar wrap, pricy, but feels good.

What size tires are those? I have Pasela 28s on my dark green '73 SC, above, and those look beefier than mine. Looks you have 27" rims. Maybe that explains the different look. Great riding bike, I love mine. I just put Pasela 28s on my Peugeot PR10 and they look really puny too. Both of my bikes are on Mavic 700c rims.

Yeah, if you put tires on old narrow rims like the MA40, Reflex, 13-20, etc. the tire width comes up small. I have Pasela 28's mounted on 1990's Torelli Master rims (having 13mm inside width like the MA40, etc.) with these tires measuring out to only 26.4mm wide. Fortunately for me that is about the width I prefer!

28mm is a wide tire and is best put on a rim with more like 19mm inside width. Some of today's rims have much better width/weight numbers so the weight penalty is minimized.

Pacenti's latest vintage-style rims look great and do well with the numbers, or one can do like most of us perhaps do and just opportunistically use what turns up.

Most of us can get by with a bike's wide, original, singlewall rims if they're still in good shape and have been tensioned accurately. I'm still riding on my S.C.'s original 27" rims.

@Slightspeed, the tires are 32mm width mounted on 27" Sun CR-18 rims, which I believe are 18mm internal. I had originally purchased CR-13s and discovered they were more narrow than I intended (those rims are collecting dust in my garage right now if anyone is interested...). I enjoyed the feel of the Brooks wrap, but it proved to be fragile. Just one encounter with my teenager caused tearing that eventually tore apart under the stress of continued use. Keep your lovely S/C away from kids and you should be good...
@dddd, my other vintage project (1972 Sprite 27) have the original chrome rims, 32H front/40H rear. Those I cleaned, re-laced, and continue to use.
