Bridgestone RB-T

Picked this up this fall intending for it to be a winter project. Finished up quicker than expected due to the gal being really into it. It's a 1994, the last year in the U.S. The color changes a tad and was hard to capture what it really is. In most cases, it looks British Racing Green-ish, but on this overcast day with snow on the ground here in MN, it's a bit different. It was fairly original when I picked it up, took it down to the frame, used Frame Saver and began building it back up.

It's not completely done yet but close to it for now until I can get some miles on it this spring to decide real world changes.

As purchased:

How it sits currently:

Future plans are definitely a front rack of some sort, likely canti mount. Any suggestions?

Front bag and perhaps a rear rack will likely follow.

Going to give these brakes a shot but Paul's may in it's future. Perhaps a new crank as well but it'll be put through it's paces first.

Good for a mile on the rollers.

Won't really know much about them until Spring when I really get out and ride more. Not a huge fan of Winter riding.

Perfect! How did you get the derailleurs and brakes so shiny? Strip and polish?

Love the stuff. Just that and some time. Didn't go to the extent of sanding or anything. It's all far from perfect but good enough for me.

Bikes: A bunch of old bikes and a few new ones

Love the bike. I have a '93 B'stone XO-2 (it came stock with 26 inch wheels and drop bars); it's a great riding bike. Somewhere there is a bridgestone appreciation thread; you can add your bike to it.

Heh Cole, you did a fantastic job with this bike.

Frost River makes a perfect saddle bag for the bike.

Maybe a Nitto front rack and a matching Frost River bar bag?

Thanks Grady. The problem with getting this done so quickly is now I need another winter project!

I've been debating between the Nitto M12 or the VO Pass Hunter front racks. Both mount to the cantilever brakes but unsure with which to go with.

I visited the Frost River store last time I was in Duluth. I'll look around at their bike stuff more closely when I go back. I do have saddlebag from Duluth Pack that I like. Mostly I'm going to want a bag(s) that can handle quick grocery/liquor store trips. That will be the extent of what I'll really want to carry outside of the essentials on other rides.

Beautiful!! Love that shade of bar tape. I might copy you on my own green bike.

It's Brooks Ochre if you want the exact. You could probably get pretty close with other tape though.

Come on over sometime.

You can see if there is anything here that winds your binder. That Serotta CSI sport tourer could be a tremendous project.

As for the Frost River bags, you can take a couple of mine for a weekend and see if you like them.

I have a couple of different Carradice bags you could try as well.

Might save you a couple of bucks before you end up buying one.

I do as well.

I bought a set for my Hollands and I am anxious to give them a whirl when it warms up a bit.

Yours is in nicer shape than mine. I bought it a year ago as a retirement present for an upcoming TransAm ride and put Contis on mine. It came with a canti front rack I removed for more touring-oriented equipment. Fenders and racks make the bike more useful but they sure mess up the lines.

As it looked on arrival. It has since been Brooksed, Blumelsed and Blackburned.

As for the tires, sort of bummed I didn't go wider as I think the 38s would have cleared and I don't plan to run fenders as of yet. If I like these I'll try the 38s once I need new rubber. They do look good though.

I might have to take you up on that a little closer to Spring. Maybe bring this so you can see it in person. For now it'll just be more stuff to look at before I get up the nerve to go out and ride again.

I'll send you a PM.

Would be interested in seeing pictures in it's current form if you get around to it! Couldn't find a ton of examples online of '94s.

toavii Interesting lever angle on the barend. Is that deliberate? I could see how it would be a little more ergonomic.

Yep, nailed it with the bar tape. Wonderful pop. Brooks even, huh!? Impressive. I haven't bought/used any yet. How did you cap off the bar tape? Looks like black twine but I can't be for certain.

Also, as for your gray cable housing, is there anything special with it or just standard stuff? It looks like it has a little texture to it but I may be mistaken.

Well done build! I've got a spot in my heart for the good 'ole RB-T!

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

Wotta nice bike.

When I saw the first pic my split second reaction was "Ugh! That stem! That saddle! That bar tape! That seatpost binder doohickey!"

All of which were fixed in the second photo, like magic. Those new tires look pretty great too. Can't imagine you needing anything wider than them unless you ride on really soft mushy gravel or you are enormously heavy.

I'm convinced I need one of these in my size, now

More or less just went with what felt right for me when I was trying to dial the fit in. I have larger hands so shifting with my pinkies in the drops at the position felt the best to me. I may have to move them around a tad once I put significantly more miles on later in the year.

The Brooks tape comes with a finishing tape that is textured similar to what Newbaum's cotton tape looks like. Best I could describe. I've tried the twine in the past but decided to just use this.

It's called Jagwire Racer, in the Titanium color. It's braided but is smooth to the touch. Purchased it from Universal Cycles. Comes with everything you need for derailleurs and brakes.
