Where do I get one of these?
I'm looking for a cable stop reducer (I think) to be able to use modern indexed shifting on my '84 Pinarello. The cable stop looks like this:

I moved that bit of springy cable and its ferrule to another bike. The standard ferrules I'd normally use for shift cables just kind of rest against this stop and folds up into the air wildly. I tried to work around this problem using a brake ferrule that has a pointy end that sticks out of the cable stop and it helped, but I'm still getting intermittent sloppy shifting that I suspect is because of this juncture being unstable.
I found an old thread where this was discussed and someone said that you can get ferrules on eBay that are specifically designed to do what I need here. The thread included this picture:

I looked on eBay and I saw a few things that look like this, but it wasn't clear to me which if any was the specific thing I needed.
Can someone help me out here? Thanks!

I think Campy p/n CG-CS013 might be what you're looking for.
Here's a completed ebay auction.

Everything I see on eBay says it's for brake cables. I guess that doesn't matter if it's the right size, but is it?
I'm going on a shop ride tomorrow. I'll ask about this there afterward.

While the step down end will help... What might be happening is that with index shifting you need index cable housing. It is not spiral wound, the steel reinforcement is much more linear, (so don't use it for braking it will come apart) and so limits compression, that might be the sloppy shifting.

You don't want to use brake cable for the derailleur cables.
Derailleur cables are thinner (~1.1/1.2mm in diameter), while brake cables are thicker (~1.5/1.6mm in diameter).

Yes, I understand that. What I meant was that all the stepdown ferrules I was seeing active on eBay said they were for brake cables, but they gave no indication of what size the ferrule itself was. This is definitely seeming like the kind of thing where I need somebody to be able to hand me a part and say, "This is what you need."

I had this on my Raleigh. Found a step-down that snugged nicely into the divers helmet (cable stop braze on) but also nicely fit the ancient, obsolete, but proper stainless steel coiled housing (salvaged from a broken AD). Luck really. Of course, my Raleigh is friction mode so the coiled shifter housing is a non-issue. And the look attracts young girls like a magnet ('ya, sure it does! Never happen.')

Andy_K - I'm pretty sure that Problem Solvers brand makes these. Look on Universal Cycle's website, and I think you'll find them. Any co-op (in PDX) will have them.

If you didn't already know, when you cut the compression cable housing, make sure it is cut square after it is formed into the loop. When the housing is bent into a loop, some of the housing wires will be long and some will be short unless you cut it in or near the final configuration.
Why? It will shift better.

On index shift cables having an end ferrule that securely surrounds the cable housing helps prevent in extreme use the inner wire strands from deforming under load. There is often a difference in outside diameter of the cable housing between shift and brake types. Grinding the cable housing end square is also I think good practice.
I have needed the "step down" end from time to time and with caliper at the ready was able to select what I needed at the LBS, also buying some other stuff to make the transaction tolerable for the shop owner. The typical shop has what you need but probably does not know it.
