All I want to know is how Bobke pronounces it. I could use a good laugh.

It's not phonetically Japanese. I think it's faux Japo-Italiano.
Anyhow if you can read katakana it is pronounced ダイアコンペ。

so in normal romanization it would be "daiakonpe" which is "da-i-a-ko-n-pe" the whole Dia-Compe is probably just made up to be easier for the international community to understand. or its actually a different language that the japanese have mangled.

Since I learned how to pronounce it, I now say "tangy."

Like how you'd describe the drink the astronauts took to the moon.

That's how I say it, in my head. I think it's our right as Americans, to be wrong about things. But I'm not sure if that includes those silly South Americans or not.

So, it has nothing to do with the word for the metal appendage on a knife, fork, etc. I thought there might be a connection there.

We had this same discussion on the Japanese parts makers Tein and Mugen. Ask ten people, get ten different answers. Right or wrong, I stick to tee-in and moo-gen. That's how we do it here in MURIKA.

Oh, and as said MURIKAN... tanj. Don't even care that it's wrong.

When I read the question, 'how do you say "Tange?"' I assumed it was meant for me. If you're not me, it means you. If you're Japanese, you might extrapolate to interpret the question as "how do you cats from Japan say "tange?" but otherwise, the question was about how you say it. Or, if you're me (which I am, and you're not), how I say it. Or, if you're romperrr, how he says it.

I, by the way, am not from Japan, so that was clearly not the question.

Anyway, to answer op's question, i do not pronounce the word. No one I speak with knows what it is or cares about its pronunciation. On the internet, spelling trumps pronunciation.

How do you say it?

Well, if you can't pronounce the name of your bike or frame material, just send it to me.

No need to own something you can't accurately describe...

I just say Tanj. I'm sure there is a foreign way to say but I don't say every foreign word as a foreigner does. :-) Or I would be in Taco bell ordering a thaco or thorteeya.

For some reason I am OK with saying Chinelli though, must make me sound like I know about bikes. Thacos are for eating and Tange must be unworthy of the effort.
