Is My Fork Dead?
Got this fork on a project bike. It's been covered in a thick layer of grime, and I just got it out today to try to clean it up. Fork is a chrome Reynolds 531 butted fork. I noticed a tiny crease in the right fork leg. The frame it was on is perfect, and the left fork leg is perfect too. Is this a stress riser? Is the fork shot? Or if I inspect it regularly, can I get some miles out of it? Is it even worth it? Any help would be appreciated, and not legally binding

Hm, could be? The fork legs are perfectly aligned and square, and there's no dimpling on the front or back of the fork leg, just on the side. Its slightly noticeable with a fingernail across it. I really love this fork. Campy fork ends and Reynolds steel.....mmmm

...looks like the same kind of small ding you get anywhere on a frame in the tubing from some sort of impact. I'd ride it without much worry. If it really does start to crack there, you ought to see it before the fork becomes dangerous to you.

Looks to me like a nice little ding and little else. I'd ride it. Heck, this is why when all the CF has exploded (asploded? I don't remember the technical term for CF failure hahaha) we'll still have millions of steel bikes to ride.
