I've been wrenching on this one for a while now. 1983 Pro Miyata, most significant non-original items were brake calipers, seat and post. Getting pretty close now, took a short spin in the road today to check the basics.

Finally got around to swapping out the used Dura Ace rings I had built the Krapf bike up with. Had a decision to make as I had bought Swiss Cross dustcovers for the crank also. It was either put on new and proper Suntour rings with silver chain ring bolts and the Swiss cross bits or stick to the red anodized dust cover and use red anodized steel chain ring bolts. Here's my decision.

Love this derailleur. They look great, they work great. I don't even miss indexing at all and this is the derailleur (in combination with LD-4850) that convinced me to switch to friction. Now you just need Superbe brakes and brake levers

The AGC300 brake calipers had unobtainium pads (I like Kool Stop better anyway), so those had to go. The tire clearance issue is pretty tough on these too. I had used the Shimano 410 dual pivot calipers before on a couple of bikes and knew they would clear the tires well enough, so that's the way I'm going for now. The AGC levers almost didn't make it until I finally got good hoods from down under.
The Suntour Symmetric shifters are a pretty nice unit, auto trimming the FD with RD shifting.
I'm going to ride it a bit on the 700x23 clinchers and then decide whether to go tubular for a better ride.
I don't know whether I'll eventually try to go more Superbe on this or not.

I finally built the VO Randonneur I bought last summer the most notable thing about the build where the brake calipers those Grand Cru brakes while are my style and they stop really well I don't think I'd used them on anything vintage even with the nice amount of reach.

Swapped out the drops on my Pug TH8 tandem for upright bars- looking forward to weather warm enough that I can convince the S.O. to stoke to the coffee shop.....

My wife commented once that she thought she would like us to have a tandem. I nixed the idea because I figured that after 40 years that would be the straw break the camel's back. But I think I would risk the ensuing argument and ultimate divorce to try it on a tandem this nice.

Suntour Superbe calipers have plenty of clearance. I use 700x25c tyres mostly with the frame I have them on, but it looks to me like they would have enough room in there for 700x28c. I'm talking about 4700 version, not sure about 4000. Dia Compe equivalent (to match the levers) would be Royal Gran Compe 500.

Last night I decided I just had to ream the seat tube on gitane three speed (tour de france). After reaming maybe 40 bikes in my life, for the first time I dropped the reamer into the seat tube and it stuck. An hour later with bb removed and copious bouncing the frame upside down, it came out. Why you ask am I this stupid? Because I just had to go from 26.4 to 26.6 so I could use a campy seat post. On the upside its kind of like cross training to work hard on the bike instead of riding it.

I got wrenched on yesterday.
Five screws and a plate. I have no idea how many stitches I got. I'm stuck in this soft cast for two weeks, then six to eight weeks in either a hard cast or back in the boot. With Mrs.Bikamper's attitude towards me these past couple of weeks, I may sell our tandem that she's only ridden once.

I'm with ya on this, Campy 2 bolt FTW and Brooks, no C+V is complete or correct without them IMO.

Took advantage of the good weather....before the rain started. Almost got this wrecked Lejune stripped, I forgot a headset cup apparently and got hung up on the fixed cup. The crankset was a cottered Sugino and the BB spindle was English, I think TDC? I think the cups are also TDC and need a 34mm wrench, which I don't have. I also haven't figured out which way it's threaded.

Adjustable reamers are available in many sizes. My dad had one for some reason. It will go from an inch all the way to 27.2mm. I've used it a bunch but it's a slow process by hand. Probably faster and I think more accurate than honing. Sometimes you notice how loose the seat tubes are once you get farther in.
