I'd bet a big chunk of that cost is a L'Eroica licensing fee and that kickback is probably one of the reasons for their "newly constructed but vintage-style" rule that allows you to use equipment like this.

Does anyone know whether my Minoura handlebar mounts would be permitted? I could always skip the water bottles and use my Camelback.

Cork and string, pretty much a hassle to use while riding, but you'll look very unique.

...I find it saddening that the L'Eroica thing is rapidly transforming into yet another way to separate cyclists from money. I guess that's life these days.

Yes, those Minoura mounts would be fine at L'Eroica.

a Posh Up-Market copy of the one I had on my bike in 1957..
1997 I Had a Bodge of a centered single Bottle cage mount, spacers and a Cheap Handlebar bag ,
then inside the bag I had 1 Bottle cage off centered, So I had room for other things..
Too bad nobody Knows how to make things, for themselves, any More... Happy Shopping ..

...the cutoff is 1987, and that stuff (cage and clamp type) was available before that, IIRC. Pretty sure I was using bar mounted bottle cages prior to that date, because I hate clamping them to the frame.

Cutoff date (such as it is) is really for the frame. Nobody cares if your bottle mounts (or derailleurs, or hubs, or rims, etc.) were made later than that. And even the frame date is more of a guideline since Bianchi released the L'Eroica model.
Any horizontal top tube steel frame with friction downtube shifters and non-aero brake levers will work just fine. Might not be the zootiest ride there, but ultimately it's all about the spirit of the thing.

I would like an original set but I think the single vintage I saw was over over $200.
I don't mind them touting vintage like stuff. It brings more interest to our real stuff :-)

Hate to sound like a grouch, but I wouldn't want anything that said L'eroica on it, especially if I planned to ride it at L'eroica.
Aside from that, the quality looks good but design-wise a bit cluttered for my taste.

It may be that "Eroica" is considered a general term "Heroic", and not just the name of a single event. Although, it does appear as if they may have also lifted the font from the Italian event which may be taboo.

I think Bianchi should make a special Heroic build for their L'Eroica model so that people can refer to "the L'Eroica Heroic". It would be the best thing since the Los Angeles Angels.

$50 on Amazon for the dual cage w/out bottles. That's not bad considering that the vintage ones often go for twice that or more.

I finally got these last year at the jumble in Gaiole for €40. They go nicely with the aluminum bottles the L'Eroica organization supplied for €10 each.
