Paypal refund?

I was refunded from a bike purchase, my refund has been pending for a couple days now. How long does it usually take for the money to be put in my account?

sloar, Howdy;

Depends on the folks accepting your return. I've had what I consider good luck so far and
the 2 times that I returned anything (2 different sellers), I got the refund within a week. It
will show on your PayPal account and if you want it returned to your bank you need to
communicate that to payPal after it shows up there.

Where is it pending, and which account, Paypal or bank?

If the seller says it's pending, then it depends on them. If it shows in your paypal a/c as pending give it a few days, but IME credits to paypal are instantaneous unless the payee is funding from a checking a/c in which case it takes about 3 days or so for Paypal to confirm that the money is good (like the delay for check clearing).

Likewise, if you transferred to a bank account, it can take a few days for the dough to show up there.

It's pending in my Paypal account. I'm not worried, I was just curious how long it takes. Thanks for the replies.

The the seller waiting for the item to be returned? That would explain 'pending'.

No, it was never shipped. He picked it up and refunded the payment the same time.

If the transaction appears at all in the OPs account, the seller already issued the credit. Pending means Paypal is processing it, and will release the funds when they're assured that they're covered.

The seller doesn't have the money in his account, would be my guess. If he did, the credit would be immediate.

From my experience, PayPal seems to hold longer so they have extra float with your money.

too long - 4 or 5 days - it's enough to burn your butt

I have conducted a lot of paypal selling over the years. I've called paypal about it, and they always blame your bank, saying your bank isn't posting it. Not true, but that's what they've been trained to say.

Longest I have had to wait for the "pending" to be removed is three days. Maybe I am just lucky, and it hasn't been many refunds I have had to receive though, two this year, in total.

Could be as long as 7-10 days depending on how the Seller is sending the money to PayPal. Sounds like the Seller did not have enough cash in his PayPal Account to Refund the money to you. PayPal does not advance the Seller money out of the goodness of their hearts (they don't have hearts).

When the Seller told PayPal to process the refund, PayPal would have done a money request from the Seller. If the Seller has money in their Bank Account that is linked to PayPal, your wait is 3-5 days for the transfer from the Seller's Bank Account to PayPal.

But if the Seller decided to mail a check to PayPal, the check is going to take 2-5 days to reach PayPal by snail mail, then PayPal holds the check for clearance (another 3 day-5 days, depending on whether the bank is in-state or out-of-state).

I've had them pend a while. It did no good to ask why, so I simply waited. Eventually, it showed up. Pained.

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

The two refunds I was given took 3 and 4 days. (after the returned item had made it back to the seller)

The days that everyone is quoting is BUSINESS days...so, weekends do not count...so, if refunded on the 14th with today being the 19th (and two weekend days)...it has only been "3 days"...keep that in mind...
