Yeah i did some research.. the issue is that it is not running that smoothly. Sure its supposed to last a lifetime.... but i think 30 years might be have been considered a lifetime and its reached the end

It could be used but its not buttery smooth - I got the one side loose so I can do the other I am pretty sure. the standard tool fits so it just a matter of pressure.

but yes, once its out, ill have to look at my options for replacing or servicing it.

...it's always something. The cartridge itself looks a lot like a standard Phil unit.

got the beast out - its a Mavic 610 if anyone is interested. took about an hour of cleaning the threads once I pulled it (locktite seeped into the BB threads! I had to scrape out each channel with a box cutter). anyway, the next time someone says 'this will last forever.. bond it in there!" do not listen to them.

some progress: sorry its not period correct- but since I will be riding this LOTS I needed something that could tackle SF and oakland hills. and I am not strong enough to deal with race gearing. its 11 speed athena with a compact and 29 at the rear, campy seatpost, cinelli stem and bars, campy wheels what I need to take the stickers off.

gatorskin tires to survive the city-

Nice save! The frame sure looks better too. Neat setup with that group. Wouldn't bother me with the wheel stickers but if a long time keeper, probably then pull. If reselling later, fussy buyers want decals. Whatever.

I'm a long, long ways off on my project but your's is motivating. Tossing back and forth whether DT era or partial retro upgrade dual control.

Looking forward to your road report.

Dang! Super nice jetboy. Looks like the last bike you'll ever buy/need.

yep: a bit of white touch up paint all around helped the frame- i still have more to do but its looking better- but will never look perfect. I am fine with that- I am not perfect either.

need to snag some cables and bar tape(hope to have time friday) and put her together! I am not a huge fan of the wheels, but since I could not find silver athena for sale new anywhere, i bought a bike of CL that had the gearing ratios i wanted- and it came with these wheels. in the end a cheaper way to go and everything is very lightly used.

I am thinking blue cables, but go with classic black tape.

i do love this bike- funny that my serious keepers- death do us part types- are both white (look 753). hard to keep clean!

your frame is gorgeous - i'd love to see what you do with it.

...what did you end up replacing that Mavic 610 BB with, or did you just press out and service the bearings ? I'm not looking forward to doing it ever, but like I said, I have a Ron Cooper bike I like that someone did that to, long ago. Pretty sure they also used Loctite, but I have access to some BB taps.

there was plenty of thread left so any BB will work - I just stuck the athena cups in and it was fine (after about an hour of cleaning the threads) I am going to keep the 610 in case i get a frame with fubared threads. I have not done it, but I am pretty sure its serviceable: and you don't have to remove to do so.

but if you can get one side off, its just press fit so some work with a rubber hammer will push it out.

Zunow Pentagla Trioninc Bicycle Frame

...they show up on an infrequent but regular basis here. It either has to do with someone selling them here or the rotation of the guys here from the two big Air Force bases we had for years back and forth through Asia. Mather closed in '93 and McClellan closed in 2001. Lotta stuff came back on those airplanes. They're almost always too small for me.

^That one vaguely looks familiar. One like it on ebay a month ago, depicted built but being listed as frameset sale only.
Also interesting but I don't see the Dichex top tube.

Anyone have a clue what the Trionic model represented? I had assumed it was for tri competition yet have seen pics of the atb frames having that name. Perhaps those were for off-road tri events?

I think it has the ditchex top tube but hes pulled the cable housing taut so its not deep in the channel, just sort of resting on the groove. it only has the two guides on it.

Apparently, there was Zunow warehouse in Davis, Toronto and Vancouver - from the 2013 thread on https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...850-zunow.html
