Bar tape suggestions

My 1978 Trek 710's bar tape is looking a bit ragged, and since I plan to add bar-cons, I will be re-wrapping it this winter. In the recent past, I have used Cinelli tape, but don't like the way if curls up on the edges. I have in the past (a long, long time ago) mused cotton wrap, even once shellaced it, but didn't like the lack of padding. I know there is a plasticized leather-looking tape out there that supposedly wears like iron, but I favor grip and padding. Brooks leather tape looks nice, but somehow I doubt that it won't end up curling on the edges, either.

So, what are my options? I want a basic red color, padding, and grip, but in something that won't curl on the edges. Am I asking too much?

There is no shortage of hockey stick cotton tape out there and it's inexpensive.

Another vote for Fizik. The perforated is called Classic I believe and the 3 mm has nice padding.

The curling up around the edges sounds like an installation issue. It should be avoidable with proper tension as you wrap the bar.
