Thank you for the information

This bike was offered as a pro-replica. Check out this guy's photo page:

Great ride today - we knocked out 36 mi. Saw the frame today and it's gorgeous, but Shawn at our LBS didn't want to take it on...

If your thoughts are that my frameset is a tribute to the 7-eleven team bike similar to the bike pictured in the link you provided; there are few differences between the bike pictured in the link and my frameset; my rear brake bridge is pantagraphed Murray (pictured one has S), my seat stays are blank (pictured bike is pantagraphed Serotta), my fork crown is pantagraphed M (pictured bike has S), my frame has a number plaque tab brazed on (pictured bike does not). I understand that still doesn't mean my bike was used by the team.

The frame measurements are 56cm seat tube (bb centerline to top tube centerline), 56cm top tube, 16cm stear tube, how can I find out which or if any of the 7- eleven team rode this size bike?

My thoughts were only that it might be a replica, because they were offered. I agree the number peg points more toward a team bike than a replica. Might've been a spare bike rather than any particular rider's too.

You could always buy the book - interesting stuff but I doubt it has what you're looking for.

Davis Phinney, Roy Knickman, Chris Carmichael -- all within this height range 5'9-5'10 or so

Another point, you left out, is that your frame has chrome stays and fork - where the replica bike was painted white. I'm betting that seat post is original to the bike, and has some national team connection.

Definitely not Knickman. He didn't join 7-Eleven until the post Murray period. When he was with 7-Eleven, they rode Huffy and Eddy Merckx.

Given the fact that it's a 56cm square geometry, it wouldn't surprise me if it was team spare, as previously suggested. It's pretty easy to eliminate team members who rode large and smaller frames, but it's going to be very hard to go beyond that.

I received the frameset back from a local shop, they did an incredible job of working the tube straight without damaging the chrome.

I want to build it back with what it was originally. Unless someone can guide me to a spec sheet for an 1986 bike and can make life easier on me I took DiabloScott's suggestion and ordered a 7-11 book in hopes it will have good pictures.

I was thinking that before I even read the text, IIRC it had something to do with power tramsmissing or something

I was in Denver on business and had the privilege to meet Ron Kiefel at his shop; what a genuinely nice guy. He signed my frameset and 7-Eleven book.

I was a little nervous after seeing my truck this am; the burglars must not have seen the Murray frameset in the back seat.

Holy crap, that sucks, glad the frame is still here. Did Mr. Kiefel have any insight to add to the mystery?

Bikes: Not that many, just getting started.

These Murray warhorses just reek with US cycling race history, don't they? pretty cool. The one I found has different condition issues, namely RUST. Great job on the stay straightening BTW. Yours is a Serotta thats for sure, the jury is still out on what mine is.

That post is cool, now you just need to find one of these chainrings to match.
