Bikes: they change so much I'm tired of updating this

Surprisingly weird bottom bracket

The bottom bracket on a Colnago I just picked up had lock rings on both sides. Both cups were adjuster cups with campagnolo and Colnago stamped on them. On top of that it had sealed bearing cartridges with a removable spindle. Has anybody came across one of these? First time for me.

I have not come across one, but I am wondering if it is an OMAS BB. Is the spindle magnetic?

Cannondale used to put something similar on their AA thru CC ST touring frames. Sugino? Suntour? Was a sealed cartridge bearing body with threaded adjuster ends and lockrings on both sides. Made it easy to adjust the chainline. Years ago I even rebuilt one with aftermarket sealed bearings...

I have never need to try this myself, but I have often suggested to owners of French or Italian bikes that they could microadjust their chainline by using adjustable cups on both sides of the BB.

EDCO might have made that BB for Colnago.

Excellent piece and simply allows one to fine adjust the chain line. Others offered them as well, such as Specialized, OMAS and one I installed in my long gone stolen Colnago Mexico was a Sampson Stratics w/ fluted ti spindle.

How about some pics of this project?

It's a keeper, a BF member went through a lot of trouble making sure I got it.

There was an Ofmega/Avocet sealed bottom bracket that looked just like that. It would be my first guess. Ofmegas was known to rebrand their components for others. Maybe OMAS or EDCO or something else though. The dual adjusting cup was a common configuration for sealed BB around 1980. Before too long everyone just copied the Phil Wood cartridge concept.

On second glance I'm going to go with OMAS. The cup covers look more correct. Avocet cups left the sealed cartridges partly exposed, and it's possible Ofmega wasn't the OEM for those BB at all.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

A Colnago is likely Italian thread, so it's possible to use an adjustable cup on both sides of the bottom bracket. This also allows some degree of chainline adjustment.

Colnago does not approve of chrome due to the chemicals… But the fork gets is for the crown…?!
And later the whole fork gets chromed, which of course makes it much easier to inventory and track as only size range dependent, no color and size to keep matched.

Gotta love it.
Straight bladed forks are easier too later… I admire how he made lower cost of building a feature.
